Right,
THE CRITERIA (According to me)
1) A sense of humour, but importantly, one that is NOTHING like Claudia's. The worst thing would be someone coming in trying to be Claudia. It just wouldn't work.
2) Someone knowledgeable about dance but with no bias. (i.e Anton would obviously be backing Erin and vice versa)
3) No one who doesn't genuinely love the programme. Names like Kate Thornton and Ferne Cotton have been thrown around which horrifies me. Do we want another Tess Daly? NO! I want someone who is properly passionate about the programme. A fan of it and to be interested in the minor details of the show like the typical viewer of ITT is.
As much as I'd love THE HART to do it, she will be filming series 3 of her sitcom this Winter so will be far too busy. Add in the fact that she is not consistent enough to do 60 shows in 12 weeks. She cancelled 2 of her Miranda recordings last year because she wasn't feeling up to it. Can't have that on ITT.
My suggestions:
Chris Hollins
JLC
Zoe Ball
Gabby Logan (although can't see her branching away from sport.)
Katie Derham (she's a genuine fan of the programme, a lovely person and to me is very underused on radio 3)
Arlene Phillips (although I fear she'd have too much of an opinion about it all ... and I can't see the Beeb admitted they made a mistake by sacking her.)
Natasha K and Sian Williams have been suggested, both women I love very much but neither I feel would be right for the show. Natasha is too serious and if she did it she could pretty much kiss goodbye to finding a news job again. Sian doesn't leave Breakfast until March 2012 at least. No way is she doing 3hr 15 mins of live tv a day and then coming back for more ...
That's my halfpenny's worth.
