How old is too old to wear certain clothes?

I personally think it's down to how you look and your body shape rather than your age. For example, Elle Macpherson and Jennifer Lopez are in their 40's and still look amazing in mini skirts. I'm not saying you have to look like them to wear a mini skirt, but if you've got a good body and a youthful look like they do, then I think a mini works. It can look like mutton if you look quite old and you haven't got the figure for it. I think It's too try-hard then. It's all down to what suits you.

I agree - you have to be careful of mini skirts at any age

I always want to pull up those trousers that hang showing their underwear.

So long as your clothing flatters your shape, and personality, fits well and doesn't wear you, then go for it.

As long as everything is beige, you're okay.

Yep, there was a debate a while ago that women over 40 shouldn't be wearing bikinis, i know many women in their 50's who look great in a bikini, but have seen some in their 20's that look horredous, so if it looks good wear it i say, sod your age.

Cobblers to both. My dad wears jeans and he is 70.

I would say no mini-skirts after 35, and I mean belts masquerading as skirts. It's probably okay to wear above the knee in your forties, if it's not something tarty.

I particularly hate slogan t-shirts, only ever JUST acceptable on the very young, perhaps up to the age of 21 as a "joke".

Thanks guys.

Well, I'm going to buy some new cargos this weekend. Just FTR, I have a good physique, so most clothes have always looked OK on me.

I am older than you and still wear them.
I feel they are comfy and any age can wear them.
Just bought a new green pair for my next break away.
Got loads of them. So keep wearing them and sod em all.

I wear what I want. My non-work winter skirts are quite short (My work skirts are all to the knee)but I put thick tights and biker boots with them, I am 33 but I still feel young and don't want to dress all fuddy duddy and frumpy.

In the Summer my skirts tend to be longer ( I don't know whether it's just me but longer skirts feel more comfortable in the summer) but if you put me in a maxi dress or maxi skirt then I look stupid or pregnant.

I still wear Jeans and trainers and shoes are my not-so secret passion I don't think I will ever stop wearing heels.

That's what it's all about.

I know what I'd rather see than a young girl putting her muffin top and corned beef arms and legs on show because she thinks she can wear what she wants because she's young.

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple

with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

and satin candles, and say we've no money for butter.

I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired

and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells

and run my stick along the public railings

and make up for the sobriety of my youth.

I shall go out in my slippers in the rain

and pick the flowers in other people's gardens

and learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat

and eat three pounds of sausages at a go

or only bread and pickles for a week

and hoard pens and pencils and beer nuts and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry

and pay our rent and not swear in the street

and set a good example for the children.

We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?

So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I stick to the idea that if you wore them last time they were in fashion then they shouldn't be worn again. I grew up in the '70's so hotpants, anything leather or pvc, or mini skirts are definitely out.

Leggings -well IMO anyway- don't look good on anyone over 5....

Trousers of any sort look OK as long as the style suits your figure, ditto maxi dresses and skirts.

I love that poem! As I'm getting on a bit now, I can't wait til i dig my red hat out and team it with something purple.

Actually I quite fancy going the Patsy from AbFab route and chainsmoking and knocking back Bolly straight from the bottle

I wore leggings the first time round, same with shoulder pads (child of the 80's) neon, block colour etc. It was bad enough then I would never wear it again!

I'm 36 37 in feb and I still wear my hair in a ponytail and mini skirts - I love my denim shorts and wear them with and with out thick black tights.
I do have the advantage of being a natural size 8 though no matter what I eat.
My benchmark is Kate Moss, she's a year older than me and if she wears it then so can I.

What is it with clothes retailers deciding that once a women reaches over a certain age what we would like to buy is a beaded top
