I agree with both of you wildy and Rachel, it doesn't seem to make sense that Nikhil has gone from being incredibly protective to the point of obsession to ignoring her but I suspect it's intended as yet more evidence that when it comes to his obsessions, Nikhil can't multi-task. When he gets distracted
it would seem that he loses his focus on Gennie and the baby and can't find a happy medium which allows him to balance all these things appropriately. Then again Gennie has been hyper-sensitive during this pregnancy (that's being charitable!

) so maybe it's a combination of factors. I have thought they've been going back to the well too many times lately with these pointless disagreements though and I think it is preventing any real growth in Nikhil's character. His inability to learn from his mistakes, or to act before disaster strikes, is now reaching the point of being incredibly predictable and dull. It's time for a change. There is so much more they could have done and could be doing with this story. Not least of which is exploring Gennie's own sad family history and her feelings about being a Mum. Similarly, how does she now see her professional future? Does Nikhil perhaps want her to be a stay at home Mum, or does she want to return to her PA job? How about some happy moments for them, decorating the nursery, talking about possible names? The current development just seems contrived for some temporary and unnecessary conflict over an issue that should never have arisen in the first place.
