The writing is hopelessly inconsistent
Nikhil was boring everyone silly with baby talk, pram comparisons, a folder full of baby gear- he nearly cries when Gennie gets the running top- Yet we are supposed to believe that they've bought nothing for the baby- does that sound like Nikhil Yes, we are supposed to see that Nikhil is distracted by Priya and David- don't blame him for being less than thrilled but I don't believe the lack of interest in Gennie and the baby- he was very attentive and overprotective- he sounded like he'd digested about ten baby books It makes little narrative sense |

It makes you wonder what the point of these big dramatic scenes are, such as Nikhil practically wrecking Gennie's house and pleading & begging for her to believe he loves her, when, a few weeks later it's as if this event had never happened.
We're just back on the same merry-go-round as we've been a hundred times already with this storyline - I can't even be bothered to be interested in the next "making-up" scene we will undoubtedly get after this drama is resolved, because it will mean absolutely nothing (again). There is just no substance to this couple at all - it just wavers between OTT drama or cutsie fluff. |

The title for this thread is very apt because sometimes it still feels like i'm waiting for them to get together as we get about a week of happiness and good character moments and then a few weeks later we're back to square one! |

Hopefully after tonight brief break-up this will be the last one. Once they move in together we get back to seeing normal #genhil not the rubbish the writers are giving us at the moment.

There is just no substance to this couple at all - it just wavers between OTT drama or cutsie fluff. Chas and Cameron being 'in love' after about two days Chas and Dan getting engaged after about 7 days Declan & Katie David & Priya Alex & Moira I think because of the (incredibly) slow build last year viewers can understand and relate to them as a couple but they have been thrown into a groundhog day holding pattern which is annoying but indicative of how stories are told on Emmerdale right now There's a far more interesting story to be told about a couple getting their own place, adapting to having a baby, it mightn't be OTT drama but a few believable, normal, dare I say it ordinary scenes would be welcome amidst the Debbie/Cameron/Chas/Dan/ Carl pantomime In between OTT dramas (which are really getting more and more contrived- they're not splitting up) they disappear offscreen, unlike Chas, who is never offscreen. The writers appear to have no interest in showing a normal relationship on this show Are we really supposed to believe Gennie would move out without telling him or that we are supposed to doubt that he won't move in with her, how many more sceens are we going to have where Gennie is surprised that Nikhil is committed to her

Finally Nikhil...fears out in the open and looking ahead as a family. Now no more stupidness please.
![]() You know Nikhil only seems to talk sense or make some sort of break through when the writters need Jai to feel bad about shtupping Rachel. I could have watched a whole hour of Genhil laying their hopes, dreams and fears out on the table instead we had more Maurel v Raddy baby drama. |

This storyline was a bit off a let down, thought they could do more with it! I wasn't expecting Nikhil to be that willing to move to Victoria cottage so easily, thinks we will have some more bumps along the way. Where did Gennie get the furniture from and moved in so quick? ED writers give this couple more air time please

I agree with you Jackles27! When they said Nikhil was Distraught after Gennie moves out, thought we would of seen more, bit of a let down. Furniture was in Victoria Cottage when she left. Gennie hasn't moved in properly yet,her stuff is still at Holgate.

More than a bit of a let down! a big let down, But they have to give it a big build up in the spoilers distraught etc just to make sure they'de be plenty bums on seats, After the yogurt throwing scenes even they would know it was far to soon for more high drama,What a wasted couple of months they finally end up where they should have been in the first place

Although I'm delighted that Nikhil is FINALLY leaving Holdgate and that his reasons for wanting to stay, against all logic, were at least addressed in a way that made sense, there has been some really odd and inconsistent writing for these two lately. It would seem that it's been decided that the only thing worth exploring with them is conflict of some kind or other and in order to do that, neither of them is allowed to learn anything from their previous conflict, to develop as characters, or to better understand each other. Situations emerge from absolutely nowhere and reach a crisis point at breakneck speed. So as an audience we're stuck in some kind of Groundhog Day. Aside from how boring and predictable that has become, it's killing the lightness of touch that these two always had. This week was a case in point. Other than the odd one liner, it wasn't a particularly funny story, if that was what they were going for, Nikhil didn't seem particularly "distraught" that she'd left, Gennie didn't find it odd that he'd gone from being obsessed with her and the baby to being dismissive and thoughtless and the whole thing was resolved in a few seconds. I think it's almost certain that we'll now lurch painfully towards another crisis of one kind or other. Gennie hasn't had her mandatory pregnancy health scare yet, required of all soap Mums to be. Surely it's only a matter of time before Nikhil has to be reminded yet again of how important Gennie is to him, by almost losing her and/or the baby. Something he will of course rapidly forget, in time for the next poorly constructed, random relationship crisis. As we've always said, it wouldn't be such a shame if you didn't feel that Rik and Sian could do more if they were given the opportunity and that their characters didn't have the potential to be a really great young soap couple if they were allowed to grow and develop and were not just used as the comic relief. It would be much more interesting to watch them actually facing something together, rather than going in opposite directions every time they face even a minor hurdle in the relationship. It's the same story with the endless affairs in Emmerdale. If you don't allow the characters time and space for the audience to invest in them and their relationship, you don't develop the sense of what's at stake when they face serious challenges. At the moment with these two, it's just a case of, here we go again!

We've got the Baby name row to come at some point! But Rik did say plenty of cute moments as well over baby names. I reckon me arguments to come as Nikhil did say he likes things done a certain way or something along those lines on Thursday

Agree with previous posts and felt that last week's spoilers promised more than was delivered. However I do think that Sian & Rik were brilliant as always.
I did enjoy the Jai/Nikhil scenes - particularly Nikhil's face when Jai asked "would you like to live with Brenda??" Also, in the cafe scene, did anyone else notice how much larger the stone on Gennie's ring was compared to Chas??!! Also, was pleased to hear Nikhil express his fears to Gennie about living away from his family for the first time. Would love to see his reaction to someone (Noah?!) getting his room at Holdgate!! One last thing; I would love to see them disagreeing about the decor of the nursery/house and discussing baby names although I am not sure TPTB hold the same view; it's the kind of thing I would love to see after a long day at work. ![]() . |

![]() There's been a missed opportunity for some nice scenes between the pair in my opinion. I'm not Katie's biggest fan but I really like her and Gennie's friendship.Quote:

From the latest spoilers it would appear you're right that the harmony certainly won't last long Mrs Stig. We're heading up on the next crisis even faster than I anticipated.

Well as well as the spoiler
Spoiler
Inside Soap's preview for their 11 September issuse says
Spoiler
Like you Telly Tot I think this is all leading up to her addressing her fears about giving birth after what happened to her own mother. I do hope that she opens up about this and doesn't push him away. I really wish I could remember what Shadrach said to Laurel (originally I thought it was Lisa he told but having looked at Shadrach's Wikipedia page I believe it was Laurel) in scenes which were screened in March 2008 (just before Gennie arrived), where he told her about his love for a woman who died giving birth to his beautiful baby daughter. He also said that he gave the baby up as he felt he was unable to look after her and that he had named her Genesis. I do hope that what happens over the next couple of weeks leads to a happier period for them in the final days before the birth. |

Agree with you Jelly Belly let's hope that we do see them discussing her fears about childbirth after what happened to her natural mother. The other spoiler sounds like we're in for a few fun scenes.
Hopefully now that they are finally moving into their own place we will get to see them discussing names etc. Totally agree about the fact that they get so little screen time compared to others bearing in mind how popular they are. On Emmerdaily today they reported that Sian and Rik are two of their five most frequently visited "cast pages" the other three being Chelsea Halfpenny (Amy), Natalie Anderson (Alicia) and Adam Thomas (Adam) - let's hope TPTB take note of such things and give Genhil more air time. |
