He is very self involved- he should have paid her a compliment and held the door open for her- he's clueless

Nikhil's actor does manage to give depth to his arseyness. In his vulnerable moments (i.e. most of the time) I am starting to feel quite sorry for him.

His self-esteem seems to be basically nil, he needs a lovely girl like Gennie.

I agree- he's a mess and terribly insecure - wasting so much energy seeking the approval of Jai for reasons nobody understands

I get why he thinks Gennie shouldn't be his type because he's clueless and seeking Jai's approval and let's face it she's not Jai's type but so what- she's worth ten of Charity

Nail on the head there - she's not a trophy girlfriend who would impress Jai. In Nikhil's head, anyway, I think Jai is quite fond of Gennie really.

I think he does like her in his own way

Jai just isn't a very good brother to Nikhil - he's always slagging him off and while it's not malicious Nikhil is very insecure so ridiculing him the whole time doesn't help

I agree. Although Nikhil is looking for Jai's approval, he doesn't seem to realise that Jai does have a soft spot for Gennie. On a few occasions now, Jai has hinted to Nikhil that he should get together with her

I got the feeling that Nikhil's character has been developed a little bit more tonight.
It felt like they were really pushing this whole fitness regime in tonights episode. We've also seen Gennie commenting on his "low self-esteem" - and she clearly still has very strong feelings for him - but - in the same way that we're being given the impression that Nikhil doesn't think she's good enough for him, I think we're also seeing Gennie being "influenced" by those around her - Katie, Chas & Laurel were all making fun of Nikhil - basically saying that he's not good enough for Gennie.

I know some people think this is taking way too long - but I'm still really enjoying how its being played out.

While it's going on too long I'm hoping it means they'll stay together a while too. In Emmerdale they are missing the background couple who just stay together so I'm hoping they'll become it.

One thing do yutink their gonna make Nikhil obsessed with exercise they were realy pushing it tonight

It seems to be something that has been evolving quietly in the background, but feels like it is becoming more prominent as the episodes move onwards.

Maybe it won't lead to anything.

I think the fitness obsession must be foreshadowing- I know the actor was training for the charity cycle at the time but so were James, Kelvin and Tom- they are making a point of stressing how much he is exercising and how little he eats

I also agree about the self esteem issues- he is crippled by his need for Jai's approval and while Gennie is right in worrying about him she is also influenced by Katie and Chas


Things might get interesting


I do think WHEN they get together it won't be for a few weeks or months

I'm new to the thread but not new to DS- I'm an Easties gal myself and have been posting in the Holby City thread

However!!!

I am a regular (obsessive?!) reader of Inside Soap and have been intrigued recently by the Genhil story. So I started randomly watching Emmerdale on/off to pick up any hints. And then I read an interview in Inside Soap with Rik and I was hooked. I also thought he was absolutely gorgeous and I decided that I had to step up my efforts with my Emmerdale watching.

Anyway, long story short, I have now got myself up to date by reading this thread and by finding Genhil clips online I have been known in the past to become more than a bit obsessed when it comes to soap pairings and this is no different!!!! I am now 100% fully insane when it comes to these two, and have even got my sister ("I don't watch soaps, they're rubbish.") hooked on the idea too

So while I might not be a long term Emmerdale viewer and might not have the background story on the two characters, I am definitely behind the two of them getting together. From my experiences with EE and HC I know that the writers do like to drag these things on, especially with couples that viewers actually like. I thought it was just a BBC thing but I guess not Perhaps this will make me more patient while ED drags this out... hmmm, or maybe not

So yes I just wanted to introduce myself I'm sort of random when it comes to forums but I do try and post/comment when I can!

Have just seen the DS spoilers for next week and had a bit of a fangirl moment! Also- new issue of Inside Soap tomorrow so I will be making sure to grab a copy of that!!

Just read next weeks spoilers on here looks like it's gonna start going soon. While I might really want them to get together quicker I also And Sej your the same as me I get obsessed with couples and seeing as I've pretty much no time for soaps anymore these two are the only ones I have now

It's amazing how many people are so interested in what is happening with Gennie and Nikhil. I too was not an Emmerdale fan and only became interested after I happened so see an interaction between whilst flicking channels. I think what has generated our affection is that we have seen a gradual development of their personalities seeing both their flaws aswell as their attributes.

We have all come to appreciate these two characters and are intrigued as to how their relationship will develop. It's says a lot for Sian and Rik's acting that although their story has not been a main storyline we have still grown to care for their characters as we see their vulnerability.

I think that Jai is very insensitive to his brother. He seems to be totally oblivious of his brothers self-esteem issues. Rather than encourage Nikhil he has embarassed him in front of all the staff by undermining him.

On the otherhand Gennie has picked up on the fact that Nikhil lacks confidence and has tried to support him.

I too, don't care how long this story drags out (within reason) if it means we get more of the lovely Gennie and sexy Nikhil on our screens .

I agree Red Lips that Sian and Rik do a great job at keeping us interested, especially as the rest of the characters on the show are p*ssing us off, well, for me anyway .

Also agree with pretty much everyone here that these are the best pairing in the show. Since David and Leyla (pre Jake + Alicia) there hasn't been a properly lovely couple people can admire. Gennie and Nik would be a perfect replacement.

I think what's drawn me into the pairing is that they are both 'normal' characters in the sense that they don't just give attitude or shout 24/7, They have relatable flaws and quirks. Plus they are adorable together And I think Rik is rather attractive too, so i'm happy when he's in screen :P

I've seen the DS episode spoilers for next week and it looks like we have progress I think the green eyed monster could soon be visiting Nikhil! Really excited to see this storyline play out!

I'm normally an 'Emmerdale Past & Present' poster but occasionally drop in and out of this thread, love both characters and the actors. I find them very refreshing on screen as both have been in the show quite a while but are only coming to the forefront now.

Not wanting to cause anyone to hyperventilate but the week after next has six back to back Gennie/Nikhil centric episodes - I'm not going to spoil anything but you can go to the ITV press centre if you want a peak yourselves, a good few developments as well at long last!

I also like how this story has Katie and David on our screens - four genuine nice characters getting some more screentime at last!

So I bought my copy of Inside Soap today... MUCH excitement!! My God, Nikhil is gorgeous. Honestly, if nothing happens with Gennie then I'm single! I love the pics of him in his running gear...

Anyway... slightly sidetracked there...

I can't believe these two haven't got a more prominent storyline. Like I said I've not really been watching long but I have watched in the past on and off so I know some of the characters and I can already tell who is going to annoy me! For example, I don't like Charity, not keen on Chas, can't stand Amy. It's a shame when soaps don't give much screentime to favourites.

Like someone already mentioned, Monday's episode seemed to focus more on Nikhil's obsession with exercise and also his low self esteem. I also noticed how Gennie is surrounded by people who constantly mock Nikhil and I thought perhaps her pretending to be over him was something she thought they wanted to hear. I mean obviously she isn't over him but denial is probably easier and a lot less suspicious than her always jumping to his defence. I don't know, just a thought.

Of course, as far as she's concerned he's not interested in her so she's got another reason for saying she's over him- because she thinks she needs to get over him. He told her he's not bothered, could never love her. Why should she wait around for him to maybe change his mind? I say good on her This way, he'll wake up and realise what has been right in front of him instead of taking her for granted which is what he does- it's sort of assumed she will defend him and help him and back him up. When she's not there he'll have to defend himself and this could be when he finally gets some self-confidence and goes after her!!!

I love how Jai blatantly knows everything I found a clip where Nikhil asks Gennie if she'll help him buy a watch for Chas and Gennie practically empties her bag everywhere trying to find something and then dashes from the room in a complete fluster. Nikhil's oblivous but Jai is grinning and rolling his eyes

I've read the press centre spoilers, and already hyperventilated Didn't want to give specific details here until they're up on DS next week because that's when everyone seems to read them so I'm sticking to DS spoilers for the time being.

We need more scenes with David and Nikhil, I love their little bromance David does seem to be playing matchmaker at the moment, he seems to be repeating the "Gennie is funny, smart and fun to be with" line a lot lately!


There's the beauty of the story now; the way Nikhil rejected Gennie so coldly and cruelly gave the viewers lots of sympathy for Gennie, both at that moment and through Nikhil's subsequent blunders. But that sympathy swings the other way now as I think we'll start to see Nikhil realise that he does indeed have feelings for Gennie but she's "moved on." And I use that term loosely because she may say it and show it through going out with a certain new vet, but I don't think she is. At all.

And like someone said above, having Nikhil go through his own phase of rejection and, dare I say it, unrequited love it will make him finally appreciate Gennie for the lovely, wonderful woman she is. He'll have to earn her love

That clip you mentioned is hilarious, and another example of Jai's 'all knowing' persona was the scene last week when Jai practically had to spell it out to Nikhil that Gennie was the one he should take to see the sugar people. I'm hoping for some more brotherly advice from Jai

Know what else I like I like the little office group from the sweet factory I've just got properly back into ED if they'd get over Aaron having to be centre of attention at all times I'd be evenmore into it though.
Anyway I do like the little scenes you get in the office when the three are there tey are usually quite fun

Would someone be able to post the Press Centre spoilers in here pweease . Or even just where I'd find them. I'm hopeless at finding things .
