Just read the ok magazine interview for the first time and I must say I'm disappointed. I'm sorry but I can't justify the interview. We can't give Josie the excuse of promoting TSAJ. The facts are Josie did an interview slating John. There's no way around what was said and it is in no way defendable IMO. Josie has always said she wouldn't go to the mags about John. Unfortunatly she has gone back on this. So now apparently John treated her terribly throughout the relationship? Calling her ugly? Mentally abusing her? Being manipulative? I'm sure he was supposed to have been the best boyfriend ever 3 months ago.
Yes I appreciate John did an interview. But not once did he slate Josie. And yes in the ok joint break interview he said some harsh things but so did Josie. But the big difference is they were there to defend themeselves then.
And I do know Josie is hurt I just don't agree with this interview. Not saying I don't appreciate her just didn't like the interview.

Maybe after time .. but not NOW or in the near future. (And hopefully if they do it will be for themselves and not because they feel pressured to do so for the sakes of all their supporters who have been rooting for them all this time. It's not about any of US. It's about THEM)
Of course I would like more than anything to see them be friends someday - especially as they went through so much together. In my heart I know that they can be in the not too distant future (it's a question of whether they want to be) I HOPE HOPE HOPE they can restore their friendship, I really do. If they can come through all this crap and harboured bitterness, anger and heartbreak then I am confident that they can be the truest and best of friends again
My wish is for them to look back on their happy memories with fondness (of which there were MANY!!) I can't picture anyone else having the ability to make them as happier as they made each other during their happiest times - but I want happiness, peace and love for them both above all else.”

They both are still, aren't they? Just can't help themselves, can they? It doesn't surprise me though, it really doesn't. They want to be 'over' each other and 'move on' with their lives but for now - they just can't seem to .. and I'm not sure why. Are they holding out for something from the other? I'm not sure what ... but I still think they are wanting explanations and answers .. but not really getting them. Possibly still looking for a reaction from the other but neither are biting directly TO each other .. but communicating THROUGH others on twitter and youtubes and mag articles!!

Sorry still at work - just about to go home, I appreciate what you're saying, of course I do, but I think Josie's attitude changed totally once she heard about John's new 'girl friend'. It took the wind out of my sails when I first read it so I can't begin to imagine what it did to Josie. Not making excuses, just saying. xxx

So John and Josie didn't have a happy ending (or not yet optimism fans *thumbs up*
). But how has it come to such a bad ending? So bitter, so quickly. Strangely enough, John's alturistic nature may have played a big part.The other night I watched All Watched By Machines Of Loving Grace on BBC2 (it's on BBC iPlayer if you want to check it out). A large strand of the first episode focused on Ayn Rand, a Russian philosopher and author (I must admit to not knowing anything about her before the programme). Running through one of her novels, Atlas Shrugged, is the theme of her philosophy that people should live selfishly to make a successful society. Alturism is dismissed as it has no ultimate gain. To find true happiness the individual should strive for what they want and not be bothered about the needs of others.
I was sat watching this and immediately thought of John. I'd already identified John's alturistic nature from my series analysis and it seemed to make sense that had he been a bit more selfish things with Josie may have turned out different. Everything was for Josie. Everything. John put aside his own happiness many times so Josie could have what she wanted/needed to build her finanical and career status. Had he thought more about what he wanted or needed for himself, they could have sorted something out and made arrangements to suit both.
The love contracts they made were for each other. They listed what they thought the other should change about themselves. It was Josie's idea and we saw that John had at least made moves to make the changes Josie listed while she was reluctant to follow John's list for herself. Josie ultimately wins here as firstly John has gone along with her idea - for her - and secondly she gets John to change things about himself while retaining many of the traits he finds annoying. Selfishness has won over alturism. However, had the contracts been a list of things they each wanted to do themselves they could've worked on that and built up a sense of pride of each other rather than resentment that their wishes hadn't been met.
Another example can actually be seen if you compare John with Ben. Ben was notoriously selfish in the House while John mostly looked out for others. As a result, in general terms, Ben was actually happier in the House than John a lot of the time. While they seemed to share in the ideal of individuality - a trait in John that actually benefits him and is much of his appeal - John had more consideration for the other individual than Ben, which was what 90% of their clashes stemmed from.
This doesn't mean John should give up his alturism. In fact it's something to embrace. Complete selfishness, as it turned out, did for Ayn Rand in the end and her envisaged happy ending fell away. Every philosophy has its flaws in practice, after all. But if John could learn to be just a little bit more selfish than he is now to balance his alturism, he could be onto a winner here Trig. Play it nice and cool son, nice and cool, y'know what I mean.
