So they're getting rid of the entire Lassiter's Complex? Do you think a new commercial area will be opening? I think that the loss of the Coffee Shop especially, will be bad for the show - it's like Coronation Street losing the Rovers Return!

There must be some sort of replacement in the pipeline, I can't see Neighbours being able to manage with the only outside set being Ramsay Street.

My post is just a rpely to this so ill grey it out too

Spoiler
From erinsborough.com:
Stefan Dennis has now settled in Melbourne with his family after many years based in London, the Sunday Herald Sun reports today. The actor has been hired by Neighbours for an 'extended guest role' which coincides with the closure last week of the Global Studio backlot - home to Paul Robinson's old stomping ground, the Lassiter's complex.

So does this mean that the filming place where Lassiters is housed has been closed, therefore they have had to do the fire so that they can rebuild everything in another studio?
I remember reading a couple of years ago that the Coffee Shop was suppose to get refurbished either last year or the year before but that never happened. So perhaps the fire is a way of moving the filming to a new studio and refurbishing the entire place? The Coffee Shop and Pub will definitely have to return otherwise the Neighbours will have no where to go!!

I would hope they would!

I resign to the fact that we're going to see different opinions on this one.

Neighbours has always been quite removed from a normal soap, I accept that, and that was some of it's charm, but for me they sometimes go over the top, and take it too far.

Also another question for the die hard fans here.

Do you rate the new arrivals, The Bishops, another one of Toadies Cousins, etc as good fit in's or not?”

His amnesia was years ago, it's not something they're gonna mention every day. The stroke on the other hand is mentioned quite a lot actually. You might wanna watch the program BTW.
The new arrivals are fantastic, the Bishops are the comedy couple you were missing...there's a lot of bickering...
But if you don't watch, how are you supposed to know, eh.

And my point of view is TV should be exciting, there's no point whatsoever in watching a fiction that's gonna be 100% realistic.
A good alternative for you might be reality TV, which will be the only thing on TV pretty soon anyway. After that, that's it, no more creativity.

Yea i agree. I didn't know what to make of the Bishops at first but i think they are a great addition! David just makes me laugh all the time

No but they would still refer to it occasionally.

It's funny isn't it Eastenders & Corrie get slated on these boards for not being realistic enough, and yet Neighbours of all soaps is the opposit.

I would watch Neighbours again if

a,) I found it interesting, at the moment I don't.
b,) Since i haven't watched Neighbours I've found other things to do, so not sure that I would have the time to watch it every day anyway.

And as for reality TV don't even go there I think that is one of the main reasons I don't watch much Tele these days anyway!

I might as well upset the rest of the forum, by saying thank heavens Big Brother is finally over, gee that really was over load.

I'll just stick with The West Wing, it's about the only thing on TV that I take the time to watch each week.

Also just the other day they poked fun at unrealistic soap storylines and people discussing soaps on messageboards, pity you've missed it.
That was... unreal.

Try watching tonight, the ending of today's episode was just awesome.
Incidently the one bad thing I 'll say about Neighbours is the lack of real cliffhangers and even when there is one, they're always a total let-down when you watch the next episode.

You've gone up in my estimation for saying you're glad BB has finished.

Incidently did you watch Nip/Tuck last nite on C4 ?Now there's a good US drama !

No missed it Nip Tuk, I heard it was good, then went and forgot all about it, I'll have to make a note and catch it next week.

I'm glad there's someone else on this forum who doesnt suport BB.

I'll try and watch tonights Neighbours as well.

bummer, I really like it and I don't usually like US dramas (apart from Knight Rider.. but they don't do them like that anymore).
And it has that guy off Home & Away in it.

BB, even if I didn't watch it, the trailers alone made me wanna throw up.

Neighbours, I think you'll have a good laugh when you see Stuart in action too.

I would love there to be a Neighbours Omnibus - since going into fulltime work a few years ago I've barely been able to watch it. I can't get freeview so a beeb 1/2 sunday/saturday thing would be best.

Can anyone think of the best way to approach the bbc about this? Get a petition going or just write letters?

I know the show isn't perfect, (and I miss the golden Kennedy days) but I'd like to be able to keep up with it over a lazy weekend.

If Neighbours was to be given an omnibus, it would only be about 100 minutes long because each episode is only about 20 minutes.

The end of today's episode was one of the best I have seen in a seriously long time from the show! It was just so real and quite sad to witness, there needs to be more of this on Neighbours.

By the way, does anyone else wish they'd come up with a better explanation to cover up for Joe Scully's permanent absence, how much longer can Lyn spend not being too bothered about it?!?

And anyone else think it would be great to see Phil Martin again in the near future?

You've really got to go to the Beeb with it, one of the Channel Controllers, or whoever is incharge of Neighbours, (I'm guessing it wouldn't come under Mal Young, as it's not a home grown drama, but whoever is incharge if imports? not sure)

The only problem is when would they show it on 1 or 2?

Saturday during the day is fairly well filled up with Sport. (& of course childrens programmes when they return!) They possibly could fit it in Saturday Morning BBC2, otherwise I can't see any space for 2.5 hours each week. not being that it's repeated each day. out of interest what are the different viewing figures like does any one know ie lunchtime verses Evening? just wondering

Crystal Palace it would not take two and half hours to show five episodes of Neighbours.

It would be 1 hour and 40 minutes long!

because they're waiting for the court case to be over, his fate is in limbo, I wouldn't be surprised if it took a year between the last time we saw him and when we finally know what's happened to him.

Ok I agree with you that was a very good and well acted ending.

I'll hope they can keep this standard up.

And Nate, I only quickly worked it out at work, and for some reason I got it into my head that the episodes were 30 mins.
my fault.

Although I'd quite like to see the result of the last scene, and I will try and watch tomorrow, The problem though is there isn't anywhere really for that scene to go to, so I guess that it will just be the morning after!

If that same story line was on a uk soap, it would of finished with carl telling susan that izzy was pregnant! the fight would have followed in the next episode, I wonder if this does make a difference to catching viewers to watch the next day.

No way. For me 1991 - 1994 were absalutly terrific episodes. Some of the best storylines, music, charactors lived in the street during this time.

Yes Ray, I totally agree I think that period was one of the best. So many great characters that have nearly all but left.

Well, the show has been very good since the 2004 season premiere.
That's about the time the new producer took over. Were you watching when they were doing 'Making mansions' ?
Tomorrow is the last episode too, Neighbours will be off the air for the next 2 weeks.

One more thing that's good about Neighbours is the colours, most UK soaps look grey, the worst being EE. The last scene of today's Neighbours looked just awesome, there's nothing better than natural light.

I like watching Neighbours in small twenty minute snippets; I don't think I could stomach an hour and forty minutes of the stuff.

As for its quality etc...

I don't see as Neighbours as a soap in the way that EE & Corrie are; it's a light, funny, and fastly moving show where storylines come and go very quickly. That said, Karl's ignorance about the paternity of Izzy's baby has to end sometime.

Anyway, I feel I can watch Neighbours without it taking over my life... which is good...

I know what you mean, I think what makes Neighbours different for me is the whole aspect of "seeing how the other half live" it's so far removed from the likes of EastEnders and the Street that it's almost fantasy...

Perhaps an omnibus on CBBC Channel, or even tomorrows episode shown straight after BBC One has finished its episode at 6 O'clock. Other programmes that do the 'turn over now to see the next episode first' routine seem to get respectable ratings.
87-91 my Neighbours favourite period.

OR they could just make a Neighbours channel on Sky. Theres channels for almost everything else LOL

They should just do an omnibus on Saturdays on BBC2 as there never seems to be anything worth watching on saturdays! Or they could see which airing is more popular and then change it so that the 5:35 episode is the newer episode and then that episode would be repeated the following day at 1:40 like what happens with the soaps on five.

I really like Neighbours and have watched it since about 1997 or so. I found this year it has been more lighthearted than previous years ( the making mansions storyline, younger characters such as serena and scott etc). I think an omnibus would be a good idea as the times it's on could be missed by people doing a 9-5 normal working day due to travel etc and so if there was a weekend omnibus it might even get more new viewers.

I agree. I think a Sunday morning slot on BBC1 would be good as I hardly ever get the chance to watch it now. I stopped watching a few years ago cause it was getting quite boring but i hear things are hotting up - dramatically.

I also think one of the satellite channels should repeat Neighbours from the very beginning.
