According to Steven Moffat and the official BBC website, we are apparently in for a 'game changing' end to this week's episode, The Almost People. My theory is this: after The Doctor (I assume) has dealt with the issues of this two parter, the end of the episode sees him finally keeping to his word by going back to Amy and Rory's time for some fish and chips. The TARDIS crew land in what we are led to believe is 'our' time, that is, modern day Earth, 2011. However, when they step out of the TARDIS, instead of people we are greeted with Cybermen. Everywhere. Not a single human being in sight. And this is where the hammerblow for the Doctor sets in: it's all his fault. Earth hasn't been invaded by the metal menaces...humanity have become them. And why? Two words: The Silence. Or rather, the lack thereof. By ridding the human race of The Silence's control over them, The Doctor did not think of the repercussions this may have had, but instead assumed we would ascend to greatness and be free to achieve on our own free will. Instead, chaos ensued. So-called human ingenuity disappeared and was replaced with mass disease, famine and civil war. The solution? Upgrade the software. Augment ailing limbs and body parts (as was the origins of the Cybermen in the classic series) with scavenged machine parts left behind by The Silence and use them to unite humanity once more. Moffat seems to enjoy his origin/reset stories. He's done it with the Daleks, he's teasing it with the Sontarans with the latest story, why not with the Cybermen? Would also explain the lack of the Cybus logo on their chestplates without having to reign in on the Mondasian back story if Moffat so wished.
I'm probably going to be completely wrong, but hey, just an idea.
