Theory behind....appearance in episode 7... (SPOILER)
Mondas
26-05-2011
According to Steven Moffat and the official BBC website, we are apparently in for a 'game changing' end to this week's episode, The Almost People. My theory is this: after The Doctor (I assume) has dealt with the issues of this two parter, the end of the episode sees him finally keeping to his word by going back to Amy and Rory's time for some fish and chips. The TARDIS crew land in what we are led to believe is 'our' time, that is, modern day Earth, 2011. However, when they step out of the TARDIS, instead of people we are greeted with Cybermen. Everywhere. Not a single human being in sight. And this is where the hammerblow for the Doctor sets in: it's all his fault. Earth hasn't been invaded by the metal menaces...humanity have become them. And why? Two words: The Silence. Or rather, the lack thereof. By ridding the human race of The Silence's control over them, The Doctor did not think of the repercussions this may have had, but instead assumed we would ascend to greatness and be free to achieve on our own free will. Instead, chaos ensued. So-called human ingenuity disappeared and was replaced with mass disease, famine and civil war. The solution? Upgrade the software. Augment ailing limbs and body parts (as was the origins of the Cybermen in the classic series) with scavenged machine parts left behind by The Silence and use them to unite humanity once more. Moffat seems to enjoy his origin/reset stories. He's done it with the Daleks, he's teasing it with the Sontarans with the latest story, why not with the Cybermen? Would also explain the lack of the Cybus logo on their chestplates without having to reign in on the Mondasian back story if Moffat so wished.

I'm probably going to be completely wrong, but hey, just an idea.

Probably totally and utterly wrong....

...but it's a great suggestion.

The idea that the Silence - even if unintentionally - kept the human-race from exploring the excesses of their animal nature is a winner.

I'd be perfectly happy to see that plot played out on screen.

Stepping on your shoulders - what if it turned out that the Silence had actually been trying to help humanity all along - shaping our -relatively- early evolution to get us through our species "adolescence"?

Again, nice thinking Mondas - thanks.

Maybe should not have named this thread like you have, Some people may not have read about them yet. Spoilers and all that.

But I do like this theory, would be interesting to see how the Doctor dealt with that.

We can be too sensitive about spoilers. The BBC have been whoring out the promotional image of the Cybermen for weeks now.

Some people might be a bit oversensitive in your eyes. However I think it is quite nice if people were to keep, shall we say, "future episode information" out of actual thread titles. Just a nice, polite thing to do. Doesn't cost anything.

What, when there are promo pictures everywhere? It is all so over the top. You people must not watch TV to avoid trailers.

I've often thought that the Silence were maybe helping Human evolution a la Exxilons and Daemons, so that if Silence 'falls' and we're told that's a bad thing then perhaps the opposite of silence is human ingenuity.

It was just a small and polite request, not necessarily about this. It is just a general request for people to air on the side of caution with thread titles. Please. As I say not exactly a costly thing to do.

I am not really complaining about the OP.

Whether or not people watch telly or visit the bbc web site is their concern. As it happens I have not seen any of the photos and this thread title is the first I heard of it. Difficult for you to believe, but there you go.

Sorry - didnt mean to start an argument. It sounds as though much of the audience are going to find out about it before the episode anyway. I just like vague thread titles when future episodes are discussed.

Eventhough the BBC went ahead and released this - it would be polite to edit the thread title... not everyone wants to know who is appearing....

Yes, definitely been confirmed by the BBC. Looks like their re-introduction is just the start of a longer plan...

Spoiler
Says in todays daily star that the cloned Dr regenerates at the end of this weeks ep and in a nod to Tom Baker says 'would you like a jelly baby?'

Could this be the game changers? could it be River song he regens into?

That sounds exactly the sort of thing I would tell the Daily Star - if I knew nothing at all.

I've always found them pretty accurate Johnny. I remember last year they printed every episode title accurately 2 weeks before the series started. It seems a pretty good source for Dr Who to me..

They've printed lots of spoilers accuratley over the years

They've also printed far more 'spoilers' that were inaccurate.
