Sounds like the album will be half old and half new tracks. Understandable, but it will leave a lot of good material unrecorded/unreleased... everything available thus far apart from How D'ya Like That & Say You Love Me (neither of wich I think should be on the album) are either demos or live recordings. Just hoping they choose the right ones to include (i.e, my faves )

Early (because I will forget on the day) happy anniversary for Friday for the Shabby appreciation thread. Also for I think Shabby is quite beautiful thread, which is a mixture of good and bad, but a nice title.

It's curious (shocking?) how quickly certain ideas took hold, for instance that Shabby (or her family) had lots of money. I particularly like this argument: "Still acting is a tough world, high unemployment and even the odd job here and there won't make you rich. Only wealthy people can afford to be actors."

The poster does have a point, though, in a way, in an earlier paragraph, because Shabby probably could fall back on her family if she absolutely had to. But even that seems to reflect the view that the only kind of squatting that could be justified is if the person has absolutely no acceptable alternative.

Yes, quite recently someone posted about her trust fund on here. Which is a bit odd, because how many people have a trust fund? It seemed to be on of those stories that came out of nowhere and wouldn't go away.

That sounds *&%$ing good. At the end of 'Say you Love Me' Shabby says, "Now we're going to play the band's favourite song..." and the video ends. Apart from the fact that it is not Lifeline (which clearly follows something else) we have no way of finding out what the band's favourite song was, unless someone was there.

Yes yes to the documentary. It would be so nice to see something about the band and not (not that I'm being prejudiced or anything) a bunch of people swanning about in a Soho pole dancing bar.

Yeah but I would expect that - it's a fairly groundbreaking and refreshing concept... the criticism will come after it airs. I just meant that for Shabby, perhaps her part in the show could be smaller and less balanced than she was lead to believe.


SO pleased to hear of the Voodoo Hussy/Apocalypse Club collaboration. It certainly seems like the best way to go after recent disappointments. Hope they can include some early-years footage, and plenty of live footage. As interesting and amusing as behind-the-scenes stuff can be, the best way to showcase an up-and-coming band is simply to show what they're capable of live, and to prove that VH are as good as any, if not better.

I seem to recall that they were all very proud of 'We're All Losing Now', but TBH I hope it's not actually the band's favourite... I like it but don't think it should make the album. Apparently SAT favourite Sleep Produces Monsters will finally become a single with a video inspired (at least in part) by MJ's 'Thriller'... 'Citing!

Re: the Freddie Fisher post - turns out he was pretty accurate in his assessment. It's a shame she was so misunderstood (though she obviously held certain things back for personal reasons), but how lovely to read a fair and positive view of Shabby from the main forum during BB... I almost forgot such things ever existed.

I remember it now that I've seen it again.

But I'm kind of two minds about that post. On the one hand, it's good to see such a sympathetic and in some ways insightful post. On the other, I'm generally not very happy with posts that put diagnostic labels on housemates; and while this post is well intentioned, many posts that do that aren't. They also (even the sympathetic ones) tend to be rather reductionistic.

I agree about "We're All Losing Now", but I'm a bit uneasy about the video. I'd rather they did something more original, perhaps inspired by the left side / right side lyrics. The video could be an ideal way to explain them somehow.

And I still think that while 'Sleep' is a good song, the lyrics need a bit of work at the point where they run out of words and are just dum, dum, dum. I'm not sure 'Sleep' would quite make it into my top 5 VH songs at this point.

Veri, I see what you mean about Freddie. He may be pretty perceptive, and its great if Shabby meets people who have an understanding of her, but many condition scome in all shapes and sizes and I objected to him pontificating about her "aloud" as it were, with no knowledge, as such. We did not know then what we know now.

He did point out in some posts that he's only an amateur but that just made me think, well, be quiet then.

OTOH i feel a little guilty for saying that as im no expert either, and maybe im nor better for sayign this on here.

Anyway, we all have our experiences (though not first hand in my case, depending on your definition of that phrase), and they do not always conform to the text books.

I remember Fiona Shaw doing it at the theatre, and I thought, how odd to go to the theatre to see someone recite a poem. But she did get glowing reviews. That sounds like SERIOUS Wasteland product.

True, and I guess he overstepped a mark, but was oddly right. And it was otherwise a sweet, sympathetic post. And interesting that he said Shabby was the person most like his friends.
