I just had a bowl of english strawberries and they were amazing. It got me wondering how everyone else has theirs? I like mine with evaporated milk and a little sprinkle of sugar.

With a low fat yoghurt & crushed meringue nest. The British strawberries in the supermarket have been massive this year & very juicy. We got them early due to the good weather we had so looks like we had what would have gone to Wimbledon.

On a Dutch rusk with white caster sugar on top.

I only go for seasonal, local strawberries. I don't like the "all year round" strawberries like the spanish ones. Lacks the flavour.

M&S are selling two big punnets of big strawberries for a fiver. They must be the Wimbledon ones as they are out of this world, just like W'don ones are usually gawjus.

I never put sugar on them these days - and to be honest, these are so sweet and delish you don't need any.

Hard to not be tempted by some cream to go with though.....

They are really good this year. I remember last year was particlarly poor and had little flavour at all. I like them with thick double cream and sometimes serve them with pancakes and lemon juice.

Lovely local Kentish strawberries are the best in the world. Sainsburys often annoys me by neglecting local Kentish. However they made up for it this weekend with local ones that smelled divine. Sweet and juicy and I only need to eat them on their own.

I've got the m&s ones too. We had one punnet yesterday and have another left in the fridge. They're some of the best ones I've ever had.

The other night when we had them just with some M&S runny double cream my son said it was the best dessert he's ever had! Praise indeed from a dessert lover and chocaholic!

I think they are Elsante strawberries.

Saw some Cornish clotted cream Ice Cream in the Co-Op the other day. Think I will try that with my strawbs next. Can't be many calories in that either.....

I heard that when you serve clotted cream with strawberries, it becomes a negative calorie dish.

The reason strawberries are tasting better than normal this year is because of the lovely weather we had in Marchand April.

The weather has affected the growth of so many crops. Although forced ones are available virtually all year, I wouldn't normally think about strawberries until Wimbledon is looming. Unfortunately, our weather will not have affected my favourite - nectarines - so I'm just going to have to wait.

Nectarines are my fave too - have some at the mo (from M&S again ) but just looked and they are from Spain.

Have been reading about the cucumber German/Spanish/Dutch food bug - but I do wash all my fruit and veg.

Something to do with organic cucumbers - from Spain I think.
Hope it's safe to try my nectarines!

I read today that 10 people in Germany have died from it. an e-coli type bug. 300 ill too apparently.

Best way

I have found them to be sweeter this year...could be the variety of course, they are fairly local to me from Hereforshire, so therefore, not being kept refrigerated too long.

With steak.....

I remember one Summer, when passing a pub, my mother-in-law pointing at a sign which read, "Steak & Strawberries", and her announcing, "Yeuch, I would never eat steak with strawberries!"

.....How we laughed !!!

Very true. In fact, some of my family used to work on the old Kentish strawberry fields (fruit picking)...years back before the farmers got the cheap labourers in

A couple of people at work mentioned last week how good strawberries are at the moment, so I really must go out and buy some (although they do seem expensive - £2 in Sainsbury's at half price?!)

I have to agree as we have our own strawberries in the garden in some large pots.
So much nicer than you get in the supermarket and a he'll of alot cheaper too. And the best bit is once you've got the plants, you've got them forever.
