The Thing (2011). 6.5/10.
It had its moments, but generally was a mediocre horror film, which fell to pieces at the end. |

It's A Wonderful Life (Blu-Ray)
Excellent film. I just recently bought this on Blu-Ray and I'm stunned at how good it looked. They did a magnificent job remastering it in HD. It came with 2 versions of the film: color & black and white and both look spectacular.

Passenger 57 - Classic Snipes. Bruce Payne does a good turn as the bad guy(English of course). Exactly what it says on the tin. Un-augmented Liz Hurley was quite plain. 8/10.

Megamind - 7/10 well crafted CGI animation of comic super heroes, super villains and plucky female side-kicks. Just a tad too frenetic to be a real classic.

Human Centipede 2
7/10 Probably not to most tastes but I knew what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with the acting; Laurence Harvey as Martin was excellent, and his vindictive mum was very good. The dialogue induced moments of humour too, especially from Dr. Sebrey. The gore wasn't as bad as I was expecting though there were a few "look away" moments which would satisfy the most harcore gorists. The downside was the ending which was kind of disappointing but totally necessary for authentification reasons and some scenes were too unrealistic scenario wise which was a tad irritating. I await the third one (which will have 36 people lmao) with interest! |

Monsters vs Aliens
Suitable for Christmas Day afternoon, mildly enjoyable whilst requiring no effort, although I was distracted by trying to work out who voiced the main character until it dawned on me towards the end. |

Cowboys and Aliens. Reminiscent of many cowboy, and many alien, films. Wasn't bad, but felt like it could have been a bit better if the aliens had been more interesting (don't want say more for fear spoilering). Standard performances from Craig and Ford but there were too many clichés throughout the story, however snappily presented, to really get the best out of them. A fairly entertaining one hour and fifty minutes.

The Messengers [2007] 6/10 - Haunted house yarn, a first US feature from Hong Kong's Pang twins (who shoot alternate days).
Chico & Rita [2010] 7/10 - Spanish animated drama about Cuban jazz. Sorority Row [2009] 5/10 - The usual slasher trash. Franklyn [2008] 7/10 - Ambitious British fantasy drama. Cargo [2009] 7/10 - The only Swiss SF movie that I know and it's worth checking out. |
