How long is your lunch break at work or school/ college?

What do you tend to eat? Do you eat in the canteen or bring stuff or go to a proper restaurant or somewhere like Greggs?

For me even though the works canteen is on site, it takes such a long time to walk there and back that there is no point going unless the lunch break is an hour or more. Everyone has lunch at roughly the same time so the queues are massive.

So I mainly bring pasta or noodles and heat it up in the microwave or pop into the cafe and buy a panini or salad.

As long as I like now that I'm at home.

I used to have a job where there was a 30 minute break - there was a work canteen but it was a 5 minute walk there and back and a 20 minute queue at peak times.
Just terrible - I think everyone should get at least an hour so they can enjoy a decent lunch

Queues used to be shorter in the canteen, but they brought in this deli counter where usually only one woman makes a roll for you from fresh ingredients. Queues for the deli counter can take half an hour or more.

I don't know why they don't get more people to help.

I get 30mins. Our canteen is stupidly overpriced (it's contracted out and £1.70 for a coffee), it's also only open 9-4 mon-fri, but our department is open 7-11 7 days. It's cheaper (and quicker) to nip round to Tesco or Lidl and get a sandwich.

I am lucky I have a 10 min break in a sometimes 14hr day.

I work in a crazy environment and a break is when possible.

But I do get lots of days off so I cant complain.

Officially an hour, but more often, half an hour when I'm really busy. Have a flask of homemade soup, a sandwich and crisps. Oh, and fruit too!

Normally an hour (although the boss generally comes with us so it can turn into two), and what we have generally depends on where we are. If we're at the Company HQ then it's normally one of two things, a quick nip out for a pub lunch, here or here, otherwise I grab a sandwich from the local buttie shop.

If we out on site or in another Country, then it's generally a case of finding out what's decent locally and grabbing that.

An hour, which i'm still not used to as in my previous jobs we just didn't take lunch breaks! It's quite good though as it's so quiet where I am, it's nice to get away.

I almost always take my own lunch in and it varies a lot as I don't tend to eat a lot of sandwiches, so it can be leftovers, or a wrap, quiche, soup....anything really! Every so often I will 'treat' myself to a Tesco southern fried chicken wrap as they're yummy.

They're talking about changing our lunchbreaks to 30 minutes and us starting a bit later, which i'm not keen on, but we'll see.

Lunch hour is an hour at my work, but I probably usually get about 40 mins once I've done detentions and been knocked for on the staffroom door by various kids.

I get a free lunch because of the extra duties I do so I get it from the school canteen.

30 mins officially (my choice) but can be longer or shorter depending on workload.

99% of the time it's homemade stuff (like soups or cous cous and falafel) but occasionally I'll buy a salad or Innocent Pot from Waitrose down the road.

1 hour, and homemade stuff also 99% of the time. I tend to cook a bit more for teas, so the freezer is always stocked with lunches.

School is next to morrisons, so usually a sandwich or wrap from there

Work flexitime, lunch can be anything between 30mins and 2 hours providing I have done 37 hours by the end of the week. Usually take 30 mins, its very rare to be more than an hour.

Either take a salad from home, or a spicy noodle something from the ethnic aisle.

That's bonkers, I am surpised anyone is daft/desperate enough to pay that. Starve them of custom and they'll soon lower their prices

For me I work 5am - 2pm, so I rarely get oppertunity to have lunch in our canteen. Usually it's just a chocolate bar or some grapes in my 20 minute break

I get 2 x 30mins.

Though working in retail means neither might be at lunchtime!

Well, officially I get an hour, but I never actually get to take the whole hour!

I bring my own lunch from home, salads, sandwiches, soups and eat at my desk.

I can take from 30 min up to an hour. Most days I just take 30min and have home made lunch, usually chicken salad at my desk.

Sometimes take an hour if I'm going out for lunch, I work right the centre of Manchester and 2 minute walk from Giraffe, GBK, Zizzi, Strada, Cafe Rouge etc so spoilt for choice if we go out for lunch
