Is that the final? It's not on their main web page and their RC only came out last week.

Yes it is the final. The Heanet server is always the first place to look for the upload. Check the stable directory. Also you can always check the progress of versions being tested on http://community.linuxmint.com/iso. Once you see it fully tested you then check Heanet to see if it has been uploaded for general release, checking Testing directory for RC and Stable directory for final release ones.

I'm lost in Ubuntu 11.10 world at the moment and the first time I've tried unity. Strangely enough I really like it. Unsurprisingly I'm finding a few issues mostly with Firefox 12. Sounding like a chipmunk on speed on Skype was a great laugh for my family though .

I'm thinking about going for Ubuntu 12.04 already but now I'm thinking Mint 13 (Maya) may be worth a try. Looks like another weekend is going to disappear fast...

Well try as I might I cannot get Mint 13 to boot from a USB stick. I've tried Unetbootin, both the one in the Ubuntu repos and the newest one from their site, and also the Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator, and the thing will not boot. I don't want to have to burn a DVD. Am I alone with this issue?

Try and boot using the Yumi usb boot system

You can also put other Linux ISOs such as System Rescue on the usb flash drive and create a multi boot if required.

I have used the links at bottom of those pendrivelinux pages for single iso and multiboots.

They are excellent little packages but don't always work for a particular iso.

I found trial and error was the order of the day.
Universal USB Installer may work when unetbootin fails for example.

You having a good experience with Kubuntu 12.04 then? I read Dedoimedo's review which sort of slates it for not being very polished, and needing too many user refinements to finish it off. I tend to feel that way about most Linux distros. They always need some sort of finishing off.

Managed to get this working earlier, and got Mint 13 Cinnamon onto a different USB stick just fine. Obviously an issue with the other stick.

Well, I have to say, as someone who just didn't see the point of Cinnamon, I am absolutely blown away with it on this release. Really very lovely indeed, and I can see why the distro is climbing the Distrowatch rankings. It's very very pretty and modern feeling, but has all the accessibility of the regular desktop paradigm. It's stunning. I honestly did not expect to like it one bit, but while I'm still unsure why it had to be forked from Gnome, the fact is it works and works well. So whatever technical reason they had for it, it has clearly paid off.

And now yet another quandary. I'm going to have to install it and get up close with it. D'oh!

I just read his review. Mine runs about 12 hours per day and I've been using 12.04 for about a month with just one segfault (KMix). I do agree the default desktop is rather bland, but I doubt many stick with that for long. Most of the rest of what he said depends on one's preferences really. I sure don't need no "serious pimping" on my desktop, but I really really need Klipper.

The last of the Kubuntus though. OpenSUSE next then I guess...

Installed Mint 13 Cinnamon. Marvellous. Even better on the metal.

Yes latest mint 13 rocks - even runs well on my lower spec PC using mate. Also still works well with grub customizer so I can multi boot any other OS I want to try.
