They are going to be very busy people, what with desktop OS, server OS, Phone OS, Tablet os, and TV

I've been using Ubuntu Studio 13.04, as my only OS, for about a month. It's based on Xubuntu raring. Had to find something with 3.8 kernel for particular hardware support which was new for 3.8.0.

Particularly impressed by the speed it boots (about 7 seconds from Grub). It gets daily updates and usually weekly kernel upgrades, so probably worth waiting for release. Not a hitch so far, which is good for a beta, but not unexpected.

Is it possible to run Linux on a Mac? I was thinking if I couldn't get it to work on my old XP laptop I could try and get it to work on one of my Macs. Oh and I bought the Ubuntu cola. I got two cans in Waitrose the other day

The developers behind the rather fun Fuduntu distro will be going forward with a whole new OS, possibly based on openSUSE. Excellent decision imo. I don't think any distro currently uses openSUSE as a base, being primarily an Ubuntu dominated landscape.

Am surprised and disappointed that the support cycle for new Ubuntu releases has been reduced from 18 months to 9 months, LTS being an exception.
So 12.10 reaches end of support in May 2014 (18 months)
And 13.04 reaches end of support in Jan 2014 (after 9 months).

Looks like the LTS versions are beginning to make more sense now.

It's a funny one. I'm sad about it too, even though I never personally went over six months with each release! I always used to upgrade every six months.

I support their approach though. It means a more stable LTS for regular users, and more exciting interim releases for geeks. I'm willing to bet too, that future LTS releases will see Unity updates backported from interim versions. It's a possibility.

I haven't downloaded 13.04 yet but I will give it a try. It definitely won't be replacing openSUSE though.

9 months is a bit tight, if you usually wait a few months before upgrading to make sure problems have been ironed out.
But the move to 5 years for LTS releases is a good one.

I've upgraded two machines/partitions to 13.04 with no problems. One Ubuntu and one Kubuntu.
I'm leaving a third older machine on 12.04 Xubuntu for the moment.

Downloading it now. Lots of reviews are saying it's a boring release, which is terrific news for us regular users as it means it's very stable! I'm all for them being conservative with the changes because if there's one thing Ubuntu and Unity needs it's a focus on stability and less on adding more stuff. Funny how people have been saying this for some time, and then when they actually do that, the reviewers complain it's boring!

Anyway, once I find my blank DVD's (laptop doesn't support USB booting) I'll give it a go.

ive been running the beta since it came out.

Have done a clean install of latest stable release.
I can now finaly open my home folder without any delays unlike the previous version, took upto a minute to open

Several other issues have been resolved, making it a even slicker OS

I had this with the last two releases, just using the live disc. This rendered it impossible to install, which led to me moving to another distro. Though while Ubuntu would not work, the spin offs were fine; Xubuntu, Kubuntu especially, etc. I have an Nvidia 9800GT, not that the graphics driver was running in the live session.

Sorry, seems like no quick fix.
its a case of trying different versions, till you find one that likes youre chipset.
As Kal_EI Says, graphics drivers are still a pain in the Butt



Im running a ATI 3870 keep looking to upgrade to something newer.
But after having same issue as you and Norbet5 last year, nothing seemed to load and run im sticking with what works for me, even if its old and big and power hungry. It works.
