cant see sun fm going for sunderland and metro wont bother either they moved the games to magic cause their boss said their more of a music station now that was her words to me.

Apparently Metro have confirmed they are not interested, but Sun FM are 'monitoring the situation'.

Does anyone know typically how much rights are for local stations? I would have thought football in places such as the north east would have pulled in good figures for commercial stations.
I wonder if, due to there being so much football on tv, via domestic and increasingly, foreign outlets, whether radio is losing audiences. I was in Liverpool last season on a Saturday afternoon and all the pubs were packed with Evertonians watching the 3pm kick off whereas once they may have been tuned to the radio.

BBC Tees signed a new deal with Middlesbrough Football Club but paying a much lower price because of the budget cuts occuring at the Beeb right now.

Ali Brownlee & Gary Gill will commentate on all Boro games with Craig Hignett and Curtis Fleming standing in for Gary when he's absent. These will be on 95fm.

Looks like Gordon Smith will not be doing punditry for BBC Radio Scotland next season: Gordon Smith to become Rangers' director of football. Although it doesn't expressly say he won't be there they were discussing it on Off The Ball and were talking to Richard Gordon who agreed that it would seem a stretch to continue as a pundit.

There was some banter at Gordon Smith's expense, with Tam Cowan remarking "So who's going to get a promotion and then subsequently getting punted when Gordon Smith returns" and the consensus that Gordon has dumped them again. I imagine it just means Billy Dodds will fill in next season.

Dave Earl, the regular producer of Premier League commentaries and Call Collymore on talkSPORT, will miss the first month or so of the new season.

Not knocking talkSPORT for off-tubing this one, it's nice they had some form of reports rather than glossing over the game entirely, although the situation would have been far from ideal for the Moose.

You beat me to the BBC Radio Shropshire details, but just to add that during the commentary Nick and Adam both emphasised that they were broadcasting to "BBC Wales and BBC Northern Ireland online" as well. At the end of the game, it was said that it's likely that they'll cover the first leg of The New Saints v FC Midtjylland in the second qualifying round next Thursday.

The list of talkSPORT live games makes for interesting reading, thanks for posting it 4-4-2.

Although there's only one real "blockbuster" game in the Manchester derby on October 23rd, most of their live matches during the first four months of the season involve at least one of the top six to eight Premier League clubs. I have a feeling that talkSPORT will be pretty happy with the way the TV picks have worked out for them.

Taking non-televised games that have been moved from the traditional 3pm Saturday timeslot into account, talkSPORT only have the ability to do one Sunday double header as things stands. That would be on October 16th when West Bromwich Albion v Wolverhampton Wanderers takes place at 12noon followed by Manchester City v Aston Villa at 1.30pm (although they'd be a 20 minute overlap, that said it wouldn't surprise me if the latter timeslot is tinkered with for TV reasons - adding in Newcastle v Tottenham at 4pm that afternoon, Sky Sports could have themselves a tasty looking "Super Sunday Hat-trick" if they so choose).

Should they do commentary on both of those games that Sunday, adding in the rest of the TV games that would mean they'll have done 20 commentaries from their 64 match total by the end of November.

One other thing that's worthy of note at this stage is that there's no midweek matchround scheduled until the week of Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st December - where, as things stand, Tottenham v Chelsea looks to be the pick of the Tuesday games with Aston Villa v Arsenal looking the best of the Wednesday matches.
