You're not someone who think that the whole BBC (Wales) is too Cardiff focused are you?

Going back to the whole Wrexham over Jackland thing, the only thing that I can think of that meant that neither Radio Wales or Radio Cymru could've also taken the end of their win against West Bromwich Albion, is a rights issue - where whoever it is that dishes out the rights believes that BBC Radio Wales (and Radio Cymru) can only offer local commentary on South West Wales FM frequencies, and not 'nationwide', as rights to commentaries are with 5 Live and Absolute Radio for 3pm kick offs.

Then again, I could be speaking bow locks.

Hi 4-4-2.
Given Arsenals current crisis, Absolute might have the better game next Saturday afternoon.

re Radio Wales, I just feel there is a overly Cardiff city bias to their football coverage.
it always feels like Swansea are mentioned after Cardiff as a kind of after-thought. I've also never really understood their digital radio coverage. as you will have seen from Ian's helpful posts over the years Radio Wales split the FM frequencies on days when their teams are playing which makes perfict sense. we always, however, get Cardiff City games on DAB/digital TV. wouldn't it be fairer to all the teams they cover to share the frequency around? also, surely yesterday hearing the end of Swansea City's first win in the premiership would have been of more interest across the country as a whole than the end of a Wrexham match (with all due respect to them).
this is only my opinion of course, and it ties in with a lot of peoples view that Radio Wales is too Cardiff centric in general.

(sorry Ian, I know your a bluebird and I genuinely wish Cardiff all the best this season... a South Wales premiership derby game would be quite something...)

Adam Bates, a former BBC Radio Derby commentator who left the Beeb in the summer to relocate to London in order to concentrate on his commentaries for the Perform Group, commentated on UTV Radio station Peak FM's coverage of Chesterfield v Carlisle United in League One on Saturday. He's tweeted that he'll be doing the odd commentary for Peak this season.

From 3PM in the Daily Mirror:
Quote:
“Most candid Tweeter of the week? Not Joey Barton but Talksport match commentator Sam Matterface.

Away on Champions League duty, young Sam decided to send his missus and former colleague on Sky Sports News Natalie Sawyer the message "xxx mIss you sexy lady with the most gorgeous face in the world and the sexiest boobies I have ever seen! so hot xx".

Happily though, Matterface did not use a direct and secret Tweet, but instead published his thoughts to all 31,000 of his followers - who greatly enjoyed reading it.

well, if I had Natalie Sawyer as my mrs, I'd be telling 30000 people about it.
only question though... "away on champions league duty"? 99.9 % sure TS were off-tubing so presumably he was in London and so would only have had to wait a few hours to tell mrs matterface how sexy she was...

Yeah i was going to say I think it's a rights issue. I think Radio Wales can broadcast commentaries on Swansea on 882/657 if the game is also on 5 Live?

sorry, but I don't think it is a rights issue.
Radio Wales have broadcast Swansea games nationally on the DAB frequency when Cardiff haven't been playing (our opening premiership game against Man City on a Monday).
if there was a rights issue, they couldn't have done this as the rights to monday football are with 5live.

Hi Ian.

the Cardiff coverage over Swansea nationally hasn't just been for this season though (or I might think you have a fair point) last season in the championship it was the same when presumably Radio Wales would have had the same coverage agreement as they do with Cardiff?
as I've said before, i don't think rights are the issue as on days when Cardiff aren't playing I've listened to Swansea games through radio wales on digital TV when I've not even been in Wales (I was in England for the Man City game).
it doesn't really bother me as I have 'Swans Player' but a little fairness from the public broadcaster wouldn't go amiss... but thats only my oppinion!

is 5LSE being used for anything else tonight? if not, I'm surprised they haven't gone for coverage of this match. I think in the past that was their policy for atractive looking Monday night championship games.

Totally agree with you, but unless it comes from the Premier League commentary on a live Monday night game is never very likely to interrupt their precious Monday Night Club.

Just spotted coventrywoo's post above my last one, with him beating me to the punch to the Mercia details - sorry fella!

I disagree - it's a game with limited interest between two teams that are not going to amount to much at all this season.

And rightly so on Sunday afternoon, there's live commentary of Cardiff v Leicester on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra - two teams expected to be in and around the promotion places.

Was that really necessary? I had stacked my post up at the top of the hour and was just waiting for talkSPORT to announce their reporter, hence why I missed coventrywoo's message at the time. Anyway, it's no big deal.

As a Leicester fan, I thought you'd be quick to point out that Coventry are struggling and look likely to be in a relegation dogfight this season. I'd be surprised if they see out a comfortable mid table campaign.

I feel it should have been on Sports Extra at worst, even if they were just relaying the C&W or Radio Suffolk commentary, seeing as that platform wasn't in use last night. After all, we've seen 5 Live being set aside for commentary on clashes between mid table sides in the Premier League which I don't believe have that much more of a general interest factor than last night's Championship fixture.

But you're right about Cardiff v Leicester, it's good that they're putting that on Sports Extra while the F1 is on 5 Live this coming Sunday.
