Spurs vs Liverpool/City are good games to have.
November isn't looking great from a commercial perspective |

The list of talkSPORT live games makes for interesting reading, thanks for posting it 4-4-2.
Although there's only one real "blockbuster" game in the Manchester derby on October 23rd, most of their live matches during the first four months of the season involve at least one of the top six to eight Premier League clubs. I have a feeling that talkSPORT will be pretty happy with the way the TV picks have worked out for them. |

I've just added some of the key Rugby World Cup dates: Quote:

Looks far weaker to me compared to last year BUT that is to be expected. Talk Sport befitted a lot last season from Liverpool having to consistently play on Sunday's due to Europa League. For example, Liverpool v Arsenal, Man Utd and Everton are all Saturday 12:45pm this year. Liverpool not qualifying for the Europa League is a big negative for Talk Sport but thats the cards that are being dealt!
Of the 20 games they are able to do between August and November, only three - two if you don't count the West Brom v Wolves derby that they may or may not cover - of those do not involve the "Top Six", Everton or Aston Villa (these being Norwich City v West Brom and Wolves v Wigan Athletic). So while it could have been better, I think talkSPORT will be pretty happy that most of their live games involve at least one well-supported team capable of delivering big audiences. You've got two Sundays in October that could be massive for talkSPORT - the 16th, where they could have a triple header of the second Rugby World Cup semi-final, the Black Country derby and Manchester City v Aston Villa; then the 23rd, where they have the Rugby World Cup Final and the Manchester derby on the same day. Should raise the profile of the station during that month to say the least. |

The loss of Liverpool v Man Utd and the Merseyside derby will be a major disappointment for talkSPORT. |

Will Radio Wales be able to have Swansea games on 882 / 657 khz or will they hve to use local FM? I was thinking if talkSPORT have national rights to some Swans matches they might not like it if Radio Wales are offering an alternative, though TS's reception aint the best in many parts of Wales, especially round my way

That they have the latter three games, plus two Liverpool matches and the business end of the Rugby World Cup during October makes that a very strong month all-round for the station. I'd guess they were hoping for some good games during that month to compliment their live rugby coverage, in order to retain any new listeners tuning in for the rugby later in the day, which is what they've got. I think the biggest source of frustration for talkSPORT is that, of the four Premier League games moved to early kick-off times for reasons other than television, three of them have been moved to a Saturday 12noon start rather than a Sunday. Sunderland v Newcastle United (20/7), Aston Villa v Wolves (27/7) and Everton v Manchester United (29/10) would have all been appealing games for talkSPORT had they been moved to a Sunday, particularly the first and last of those fixtures seeing as the station does not have a Sunday commentary game at all during those weekends. It'll be interesting to see what they do when Swansea games are in the Saturday 5.30pm slot - put them on FM locally and keep a more general post-match round-up on AM, maybe then taking the second half live on AM, or stick the game wholly on AM. What has happened in the past when Cardiff and Swansea have been involved in Saturday teatime Championship games for TV? I don't think talkSPORT have huge grounds for complaints here really (not that I think they'll be that bothered about this, to be blunt), I can just about pick up the 882am Radio Wales signal in the West Midlands but ordinarily I find it doesn't travel that well, certainly not as well as talkSPORT's 1089am South-East/North-West relay did in the days when they carried regional commentaries. |

At a guess, I see no reason why things wouldn't stay as they are at the moment. At 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, their three-way regional FM split with Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham commentaries going out to different areas of the country with an Around the Grounds show that sometimes incorporates rugby union commentary on AM works really well in my opinion. Then on Sundays and in midweek, games are mostly broadcast on AM anyway are they not, so it's not as if they'd been changing what they have always done now that the Swans are in the Premier League?
During last season, Jackland's games have always also been on AM. Any midweek games are FM / DAB / D-SAT only, allowing Alan Thomson's Evening Show to continue on AM. Quote:

Something that will be easy to predict will be that since Radio Cymru only have the one frequency, every commentary will be that of Jackland's games

Saturday 9th July - talkSPORT
The Transfer Tavern with Sam Matterface, followed by Full Contact with Mike Bovill and Jeff Probyn Women's World Cup Quarter-Final England v France - Graham Beecroft Cricket: Fifth One-Day International England v Sri Lanka - Jack Bannister Golf: Scottish Open Castle Stuart Golf Links, Inverness - Rupert Bell BBC Radio 5 Live 5 Live Sport with Russell Fuller from Inverness, followed by 6-Duck-6 with Michael Vaughan and Alec Stewart from Old Trafford Women's World Cup Quarter-Final England v France - Nigel Adderley Cricket: Fifth One-Day International England v Sri Lanka - Pat Murphy, Michael Vaughan and Alec Stewart Golf: Scottish Open Castle Stuart Golf Links, Inverness - Iain Carter, Conor McNamara, Andrew Coltart and Russell Fuller Rugby League: Super League Harlequins v Wigan Warriors - David Oates IPC Swimming European Championships Berlin - Chris Mitchell We'll never know now, but I wonder who would have done co-commentary alongside Nigel Adderley for BBC Radio had England reached the Women's World Cup semi-finals. Nigel mentioned on Twitter that live commentary would have been on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra in the event of England going through. Marianne Spacey maybe? Nigel and fellow BBC reporter Alistair Magowan have both flown home from Germany in the wake of England's exit, so I imagine Radio 5 Live won't be carrying (on-site) updates on the Women's World Cup semi-finals or final. |

Agreed. I don't see how talkSPORT could be in any way annoyed if either Radio Wales/Cymru or Swansea Sound are offering another 'style' of commentary, as If they were, they'd have to ask permission to get other local stations on games they have rights to to stop providing a service, and that wouldn't be in their interest.
During last season, Jackland's games have always also been on AM. Any midweek games are FM / DAB / D-SAT only, allowing Alan Thomson's Evening Show to continue on AM. All frequencies merged to proving the single commentary, and Radio Wales Sport / Camp Lawn finshed at 7.30-ish. Something that will be easy to predict will be that since Radio Cymru only have the one frequency, every commentary will be that of Jackland's games ![]() Can't imagine talkSPORT complaining about Swansea Sound - both stations are owned by UTV Radio! If anything, with Swansea City games that are live commentaries on talkSPORT, I could see their pitchside reporters doubling up in this role on Swansea Sound as was the case with Roger Hughes at last season's Championship Play-Off Final. |

Thanks for the information about Radio Wales Ian. To clarify, were they broadcasting Swansea commentaries on AM on Saturdays at 3pm rather than the Around the Grounds show they did for many years? Or do you just mean how they pick up five minutes of commentary here or there, as they do with Cardiff and Wrexham too.

Do Radio Cymru ever do regional FM splits for football commentary?

Thursday 14th July - BBC London
Steve Bunce presenting The Thursday Night Sport Show and The Boxing Hour UEFA Europa League Second Qualifying Round First Leg Crusaders v Fulham - Kevin Hand and Rufus Brevett (first half commentary on all platforms, second half commentary on DAB and the BBC Sport website only) Cricket: T20 Southern League Surrey v Kent - Mark Church and Johnny Barran (commentary on the BBC Sport website and Surrey CCC's official website) talkSPORT Danny Kelly presenting Kick-Off alongside Kevin Cadle UEFA Europa League Second Qualifying Round First Leg Crusaders v Fulham - Ian Abrahams Golf: The 140th Open Championship Royal St George's, Sandwich - Rupert Bell and Bob Bubka Bit of a shame that Ian Abrahams is reporting on the Crusaders v Fulham game rather than talkSPORT's long-time Northern Irish football correspondent Nigel Ringland. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I heard Nigel covering a Northern Ireland game for them, I don't think he's reported for the station for a few years now. |

talkSPORT: Sam Matterface is presenting The Transfer Tavern from Fratton Park, having reported on the Portsmouth v Chelsea friendly during The All Sports Show with Ian Danter and Perry Groves. That show didn't have reporters at any of today's other friendlies as far as I heard.
