This is the next logical step for BT as it will bring actual live channels as well as VOD. HD channels should also be in the mix

I've been saying this for some time now.

It is coming, it will use similar technologies that will help YouView be delivered and the key element is reduction in transmission costs for channels and rapid channel deployment.

Roll on Vision2.

Agreed, for YV to be viable and not consume a silly percentage of the UK internet infrastructure, the support for multicast was obviously needed.

Now folks may have to get new ADSL modems to support it though!

Homehub3 will support it already I think. hence it's introduction. because the homehub2 does support infinity already quite well.

Yes of course it is - unless you're on BTInfinity.

Is this going backwards, Linear channels? i thought the future was video on Demand, where you can pick what you want to watch and when.

sorry probably didn't word that question properly. So if your x number of meters/miles from the exchange is it a case of not being able to receive the new tv service or is it a case of constant buffering or poorer quality signal ?

Not for live sport though, if you read the article it states:-

"When asked why, White said: "It's too expensive renting DVB-T multiplex space to deliver Sky Sports to BT Vision customers, so we want to send it multicast.""

That is true, I do watch the Grand prix live, most other things I want to watch I record. I do record the gran prix practice now I found out I can.

Top up T.V also uses the sky sport channels, so I wonder how they are going to cope? Saying that I think either TUTV will close or they will go TVoIP at some point.

Presumably if BT Vision/Youview get Sky sports and other channels like ESPN and Gold working on multicast BT wholesale will offer it to 3rd parties like TUTV before ceasing the DTT channels? Guess it will work if TUTV customers use an ISP which uses BT wholesale and therefore access to the BT CDN and fibre networks?
Notice the new TUTV i-can box has internet connectivity but only with iplayer, so guess other IPTV pay services can be added later
