Apparently Apple are to talk about these, plus more, at their yearly conference on Monday.

Does anybody know what features are rumoured for iOS5 at all? iOS 4 is starting to fall behind other offerings now, so it'll be interesting to see what they can offer up.

Apple have officially said that they will announce iOS5 and iCloud - http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/05/31wwdc.html

According to some websites, iOS5 will include widgets, improved notifications system and twitter integration into iOS. And no doubt quite a few surprises. They need to include some unique things to keep iPhone going until the new iPhone is released.

From what I've heard, there aren't going to be widgets as we know them, rather Apple's interpretation of them. So I would imagine that means live icons and possibly lockscreen info, but I would be surprised if they completely overhauled the icon grid design they're so well known for.

The only way fully-fledged widgets would work would be if they either expanded the number of homescreens again (which seems unlikely, too many would just be unwieldy) or overhauled the folder system so you can have more than 9 apps per folder (also unlikely, as they only introduced that system last year). Otherwise you'd end up with screens full of widgets and nowhere to put your apps.

You can have 12 apps per folder currently.

We shall wait and see.

One prediction I can make: Apple will introduce a feature the competition have had for some time and Apple fans will call it groundbreaking and life-changing.

After all, before FaceTime, it was impossible for anyone to do video-calling right?

Oh yeah, thanks. I forget these things it seems. Either way, it's limited.

I'm looking forward to hearing what's in the keynote on Monday. There's bound to be something with the "ooh" factor, or at least something that will trigger a better service or feature that all phones will get regardless of operating system. I'd love for Apple to have upped the game on battery life, so that all the manufacturers will do that too.

Thats a hardware issue though, they may be able to help battery a little bit with software tweaks, but not dramatically enough for it to be a key talking point. They must have something up their sleeve, they will want an iPhone style announcement to keep people interested.

There's the chance that will happen!

But then again, iPhone set the standards for smartphones originally. It's time for something else now to push them in front of the competition which has caught up now and in some cases exceeded. Which is not necessarily a bad thing either as it keeps them on their toes hopefully!

Battery life issues are down to the fact that the technology has not advanced in a long time [technologically speaking]. We're still using batteries that were around 3 or 4 years ago in "old" phones, it's just that the software can better use the power within them now.

A major leap forward in battery tech is probably a wee bit away yet.

Either way if there is a IOS 5 on its way I wont be upgrading, I have a feeling that it will be a nail in the coffin for jailbroken iphones. Since jail breaking my iphone 4 I now have access to a lot of apps (most Free) that you could only dream of getting through Apples official app store.

If rumour is to be believed, the guy that did the jailbroken notification system is working with Apple. He's not working on his JB apps and he's working on something he's not allowed to talk about.

If Apple were to embrace a load of the functionality that people say they jailbreak for, surely that lessens the number of people who will need to (apart from people who just want pirated apps, obviously, they'd jailbreak no matter what Apple added to the OS).

Haven't heard any rumours but I'd love to see a subs based music service I can sync across my iPhone/iPod.

Not long to wait now, should be interesting to see how much apple show off tomorrow and if there will be any clues to the next iPhone.

Just read this:

Note: Apple hasn’t announced a live stream, and unless and until they do, we’re assuming there isn’t one. We’ll update if and when we hear otherwise.

Think I'll have tipb.com, engadget.com and maybe gizmodo.com open. Still hoping for a live video feed from apple though.

Some welcome new features, but I'm not really convinced by iMessage. Something like WhatsApp seems to have all the features already, and it's cross-platform.
