Rory and Amy's daughter would be the worst possible scenario imo. Surely Moffat can do better than that,

River knows who she is and has told the Doctor that when he finds out it will change everything. She certainly doesn't behave as if she knows she's Amy and Rory's daughter.

If River is Amys daughter isnt it a bit creepy that the Doctor will be romantically involved with her in the future, he will see her gowing up knowing hes made out with her in the future - she said something to Rory about the Doctor knowing all about her when she was young though, just a bit weird.

But if she's had her life 'spoiled' for her - if she knows what she's going to do, or who her parents are, or whatever, because the Doctor has told her first, then she has ample time to prepare her reactions.

I think she might be a regenerated Donna? That's why she's knows what his name is, because of the whole Doctor Donna thing?

But Donna and the Doctor were strictly platonic and would she be able to regenerate.

After Rory and Amy's wedding the Dr if I remember correctly asked her River are we married and she said yes.
Then he said I am not asking you to marry me but
the answer was Yes and Yes.
Anyone make any sense of that - did I remember it correctly?

In the Library she didn't recognise Donna, although she clearly knew about Donna and her fate. I doubt she could be a future Donna, but if she were then it would mean she didn't remember her original human life first hand.

My tip for River Song’s identity is Reinette Poisson, Madame de Pompadour.

The mind-meld between the Doctor and Reinette explains how she knew his name
and importantly how she could remember the Doctor before Amy did after the Big Bang reset,
his memory was far deeper implanted in her mind than Amy's.
River is also psychic given her ability to send a message to his psychic paper calling him to the library.

I had River asking “Did you daaaaance ?” echoing in my head all night.
And in the reading of the letter, She and River even say “my love” the same way. Remember the exploding Tardis time-loop “I’m sorry my love.”

Alex has said in interviews that the Moff gave her “a general idea” of who River was before filming Series 5.

Before you start shouting at the screen “SHE’S DEAD !!!” the question becomes HOW ? There are at least two possibilities to continue her story.

One, re-animation by one of the Big Bads or Bad Wolf for good or bad purposes.

The other, a change in time-lines by either of the Big Bads or the Big Bang re-set, which meant the Doctor did not save her from a beheaded fate at the hands of clockwork robots.

Let's look at some evidence.
There has been some teasing/foreshadowing of GitF / Reinette in Series 6 including the painting in the orphanage behind Amy’s scream showing a woman with River’s hair in a ballgown.
Talk of doors in minds, "I love a cockerill me !" The metaphor of the Siren coming through mirrors. Do silents come through mirrors also ?

Consider Idris as a metaphor for River.
Her first words were ‘Goodbye’ her first, ‘Hello’
She archived desktops that haven’t happened yet as River archives events in her diary.

Idris’s dialogue holds clues to the big reveal.

“I’m, I’m ...big word, sad word. Why is that word so sad ?
No will be sad, will be sad. “

and later...

“I’ve been looking for a word, a big complicated word.
One so sad. I’ve found it now....ALIVE. I’M ALIVE."

Why is finding out River is alive going to be sad ?

Reinette was destined to die of T.B. a sadness we’ve already seen. What could be a sadder turn of events if she were to live ?
Is it simply a change in time-lines by Big Bad / Time-Lord Victorious to a future she was never meant to see ?

“I had an umbrella like you once.” The Doctor says to Auntie & Uncle.

An umbrella that was a question mark and once literally a cliff-hanger. He was talking of Auntie & Uncle being patchwork.
Is River patchwork ? Did the clockwork robots come back and finish the job on Reinette leaving her patchwork ?

We’ve had a lot of talk of separate heads and two heads in series 5&6 such as the robot King Arthur story and the Aplans among others. Is this what it is foreshadowing ?
The Doc and Idris built a Tardis console out of parts, another metaphor ? As was the enhanced spacesuit ?
Was her head then attached to a ship or a clockwork / cyber body ?

The clockwork robots returning to cut off her head is the option I’ll go for, but I think there is some mileage in the need for some Badwolf style intervention to save the day.
Perhaps even it’s The Doctor that has to make a new body for his love’s head with the need for an Idris kiss of life to make things work.

For what its worth I have no idea who she is but am very intrigued to find out.

River is by far the best character to emerge from new who

Nothing to stop the same person being in the same time at different points in their lives.

Me I'm betting that River will turn out to be The Little Girl who is Amy's baby as well as being other incarnations of Rory & Amy.

Captain Jack is their father.

I still doubt she will be either b) or c).

Ok, just trying to go by the facts:
She deffo loves the Doctor - and has been seen various of his faces which must have happened in her past and his future (from SitL/FotD onwards)

In her past, there has been quite some kissing going on between her and the Doctor - which will stop after DotM.

Demon's Run is in her past and she knows what will happen there. She also knows that the Doctor will right at the end find something out about her. She also knows that she will only show up there rather late.

Subsequently (her future from the Demon's Run perspective , Doctor's past), she's got a good report with the Doctor again. With some sadness about the past hinted at.

Still, 200 years into the Doctor's personal future, she comes out the second most trusted friend he has.

=> she must be someone whose origin is quite shocking, but not shocking enough to drive a wedge between him and her.

Timelord? Unlikely
Someone he helped "create"? No idea.
Captain Jack Harkness? Would be my main bet if Jack was not already otherwise handled, story-wise.

In short: no idea! But not Amy/Rory's child ... ever!

This is what I think. River obviously loves the Doctor more then I think any assistant has ever loved him. I am guessing in a small way the Doctor feels the same.

Some people care. Just because you dont.

For me, it just wouldn't make sense if her mum and dad are Amy and Rory.
And Karen had said that the revelation about River Song would be a shock.

I hope that river is someone or something that no one has suggested. Nothing easily guessable like amys daughter. I think she is going to be something really clever and I can't wait!
