I think...

She's no-one we've ever heard of - someone in the future who starts out as his enemy but falls in love with him and regrets things she did to harm him so she's tried to make up for it by helping him in his past.

She was probably just some low-life who was planted on him as a companion by a serious baddie - but she eventually realised that the Doctor is a good man - too late because his future self refused to have anything to do with her once her past was exposed.

Which obviously isnt true. I mean if the future doctor wanted nothing to do with her why would he a) go to all the trouble of saving her with the sonic screwdriver and b) tell her his name.

No idea tbh. There's plenty of theories bouncing around, I just wanna watch and be surprised.

I think her being Amy's daughter would be too obvious...

Spoiler

Amy's daughter is apparantly going to be named Melody. Melody Pond/River Song? Both have the music and water theme. Too obvious. I'd be disappointed if that's it. Moff is a clever chap though, so I doubt he'd go for that.

Can you honestly say Eccleston and Tennant's Doctors didn't fancy themselves atleast a little?

It all seems to point to River being Amy's daughter - and yet....

If it was it would be not the greatest shock and the cliffhanger is supposed to be shocking. So where does that leave us?

I have no other idea!

What do we know...

Thinking back to "The Pandorica Opens" she referred to Rory as the plastic centurian and didn't seem to know who he is...

Nope - i give up!

According to the Moff she was pretending not to know him.

I completely agree. I realise that the Doctor cannot possibly get involved with anyone of his own generation, but actually seeing someone as a baby and knowing her parents makes it different - he'd be like an uncle to Melody.

Right after her first appearance, I wondered if she was maybe sent by a future Doctor to "help" 10 and 11, considering how much she knows about him, the TARDIS, the way things work etc. The Doctor doesn't normally teach his companions that much. I know that would be extremely timey-wimey, and is highly unlikely, but I still like the thought.

Video on Who site about her reaction to finding out - http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/videos/p00h8w2d

There are more reasons though toward the whole Amy and Rory's daughter idea though, the most recent I can think of is when in Day of the Moon and River says "Love a tomb" (much like Amy in Pandorica Opens saying "Love a Roman") making it more obvious that it isn't likely just because its Moffat

Just added the poll - 10 to choose from but you can vote for more than one at a time. I didn't include 'icky' options (like his own daugher, mother or a future Doctor) due to the 'snogging' that's gone on.

The poll says a Ganger, but if shes a Ganger, there will be a real River Song somewhere... that helps no-one.

I don't care as long as its not the lame "Rory & Amy's daughter" thing. Unless the child's a Time Lord (Lady), which means so is Amy. Or Rory. I like the Idea of Rory being Omega or the Master with a fobwatch. Also Amy being adopted and really Donna Noble's daughter. But at the end of the day it will probably be

Spoiler
The donor of the Time Lord DNA which gives Amy a Galifreyan child (Amy's baby's father-ish)

Because he did all that before he found out she was a wrong 'un. Remember, the Doctor's we're seeing in now are in her past - her timeline is backwards. She hasn't harmed any of them;.

I didn't say that she turned up, said "I'm a crook" and he immediately told her his innermost thoughts. I did say that she tricked him - got those things - and then betrayed him.

I'm guessing you've never been divorced

This probably makes no sense but could River be Amy's real mother?

Both these would be amazingly lazy story-telling.

I am praying for a reveal that will absolutely blow me away. Something so surprising, that I never saw it coming, but something that immediately makes complete sense.

Anything less & I'll feel short changed.

Who's with me?!
