Here's a wild theory;

When people suggest that she's the Doctor's Wife, they're usually implying that he is yet to marry her but from her perspective they've been married a while. Well what if she's the Doctor's Wife as in the Time Lady he was married to (presumably) during/before the time war? He often makes reference to his dead children, and those children had to have a mother. Rather than being the wife he hasn't met yet, why not the woman he's been married to for however long but with a new face? There are dozens of convincing sci-fi-timey-wimey spiels that the Moff could produce to cover the fact that he couldn't tell she was a timelord, so why not?

Probably lots of holes in that, but it's the closest i'm going to come to making a serious theory.

Of course she could end up being a SUPER-RANI. Like the original, only SUPER.

I don't care who she is as long as its all told well and as long as it all makes sense.

I want it to turn out that she's a dude, and the Doctor gets a bit disturbed about the snog.

I'm pretty sure that there are other threads covering this topic, but another one? Yeah sure okay.

I've said it before, the identity of River Song does not matter. What matters is what she does. If it was revealed that River is Amy's daughter, interesting but doesn't matter. But if it is revealed that she murdered the Doctor, that's interesting.

So no I won't spew.

I would be with you to be honest. It would ruin the whole arc for me, and damage my enjoyment of this series.

I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen. And I'm fine with it.

Surely if no one sees it coming it just means its unlikely to make much sense story wise especially if you consider that DW is probably one of the most over analysed shows on air. The idea that even Moffat is going to have some genius reveal that blows everyone away, meets all expectations, has never been suggested before but yet makes perfect sense and keeps everyone happy is just a bit fanciful and unrealistic.

Plus why is it so many people think that she is just one thing and one thing only and this defines her and what she does, did, and will do. She.could be Ponds daughter and still be many other things.

Every person I know who has said they would hate what the OP suggests to come true is happy to rage at the concept but seem strangely incapable of offering up a better idea.

One things for sure. They'll be some raging and tears before Saturday is over whatever the outcome is. You can't please all of the people all of the time etc.

He can't "forget" cos her timeline is backwards compared to his. Whatever she did do wrong hasn't happened yet.

The Doctor's sister, Although that kiss would thus be very disturbing

The Doctor's babysitter from when he was a timebaby.

Or maybe the fashion police wanting a word about a certain bow tie (PROOF: you all saw how she reacted to the Fez. If it hadn't been for the imminent danger she'd have had the bow tie too)

Or maybe she's Steven Moffat's way of trolling every single doctor who forum ever, because he knew we'd get into a frenzy trying to figure her out.

Or maybe she's Catwoman, and some rip in time and space and dimensions and whatnot have cause the Doctor who Universe to merge with DC comics.

Or maybe there is no River Song and the Doctor has a split personality thing going like in Fight Club.

Or maybe she's trying to sell him something? Like some furry dice for his TARDIS? He'd probably buy them too.

Or maybe she's Rory's Mum/Dad/Sister/Goldfish/Car.

As long as I don't feel let down by the end, I'm perfectly content to just sit around making silly suggestions.

If this is true, the whole journey will have been worth it.

I was thinking about this earlier. Its pretty horrific. I think its the first time I have actually felt sorry for a Dalek. I dont know if Daleks have ever begged for mercy before but you know she is quite kick ass whoever she is and actually made me love her more.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she finally tells the Doctor her big secret, the thing that's been eating away at her soul for all these years - and he just says - "I've known all along - I'm a bleedin' time traveller ya dozey great trollop!"

Actually I thought that was possible. It would be really funny.

Maybe she's abit like Santa in that she's the spirit of people coming up with outragous theories?

Just thought of something, River has said 'love a tomb' and 'love a roman', didnt the Doctor say in the rebel flesh 'love a cockrel'.

And Amy responded to the Dalek's "I am your soldier" with "Yeah, got that bit. Love a squaddie."

We need to make a list.

Anyway, still wondering what would be lazy and plot-ruining about the possibility of River being Amy's child. No-one seems to want to say why.

Edit: knew I had heard another one.
The Doctor's Wife: "It's all right. It's an Ood! Oods are good, love an Ood."
