Never. The most we've had reach the interview round is 5. We have had 3 fired at interview, and also had 4 in the final, and had series with no double-firings, so I think they could cope with anything from 3 to 6.

What I mean to say is that there is no proof that the intention is to actually have 6 candidates at the interview stage. Why else bother with the double firings? In both cases he could have just fired the PM.

Surely some series of The Apprentice have had thirteen episodes? That wouldn't fit in with the "ten tasks, interviews, final" programme.

I'm not sure which two cases you have in mind.

I wouldn't say the intention was to have 6, just that the format allows for it so he's never forced or required to have a double-firing. If either Ellie or Vince had been clearly worth saving, he could have chosen to keep one of them. Instead he explicitly said he was firing two "to send a message".
