Got a Technika 42" LCD FreeviewHD HDTV....[luvvly jubbly], along with various ports and plugs on the back there is a LAN port. I've connected it to my router, and it shows up it's own ip address, so it's defiantly a proper port.

Now, there doesn't appear to be anything much in the user manual about it, I was wondering what this is used for?

Is there anyway of perhaps getting BBCi player through it as you can with some FreeviewHD stand alone boxes.

At the mo, I only seem to get just red button text services, and things like F1, but no way to get BBCi player.

Ta for looking.

What's the model number ?
Go to the info page and take note of the details.
A google search of the full model name/number may yield results.
There are 3 versions of the Technika FreeviewHD box each with a different chipset.
The chipset your TV uses for FreeviewHD may indicate the chance of getting a firmware update for BBC Iplayer.
I believe the LAN port is part of the FreeviewHD specification.

If your TV conforms to the latest standards for Freeview HD fully, then the LAN port is likely to be for BBC Iplayer in future. However each manufacturer has to submit their models to the BBC for testing before it gets approval and the service goes live on their TVs/PVRs. It's probable they are awaiting approval.

Ah I thought that it may be for future BBCi.

LG TVs from Tesco already have access to a goodly number of on-line services. I got an LG last week, 32" for £299 - bloody marvelous.

My Sony has this and it allows me to play music through the tv that is stored elsewhere on the network.
