No sh*t Sherlock, the only thing that was amazing about their act was that the judges acted all perplexed about how it was done.

I thought their audition trick was much better tbh.

"Hollow"? What the glass was hollow or the metal was hollow? (Not that I have heard of hollow glass)

I do wish before trying to boost their ego the kids would learn how to post a readable and understandable post.

i would imagine he means the top hasnt any glass in it

So even with the top on the rig resembles an opentop fishtank

someone posted this earlier. its the american version from 4 years ago. Same tank, slightly different in its execution.

in the american version i still maintain that the top flips forward because its not secured at the back - only at the front.

In the uk version they could have also done it with no glass in the lid as they were very careful to make sure the top remained horizontal so that you couldnt see it

Well in the clip you supplied I can clearly see glass in the top of the box as the girl is standing on it.

Bang goes that attempt at trying to spoil magic for everyone else.

What at people going around trying to spoil people's livihoods and any excitement for the audience?

Yes! I would call that a normal reaction.

but the thread is clearly labelled spoilers and as the american video showed this trick is obviously one that you can just purchase.

Its not a David & Karen original. And people arent depriving them of what is a trick exclusively to them.

And noone knows for sure which method they used, its just speculation based on the most likely scenario.

This kind of act is exactly why Penn & Teller and the masked magician revealed some secrets. Because there is no originality. For magic to survive it needs to morph and grow into something exciting, something that hasnt been seen before.

And that is where the real talent lies.

Ha! A typical nobody's authority on magic thread.

The sad justification of wrong doing is truly mindless in the extreme.

Most likely explanation is that the straps that are supposedly "locking" the lid of the tank aren't secured down on the other side, meaning the lid can be lifted. Which also means she doesn't have to hold her breath for as long as it looks, becuase even if they momentarily cover the tank and then uncover it again to prove she is still there she has time to lift the lid slightly and take a breath while it's covered.

In the traditional water torture escape the trick is that there are no hinges in the trapdoor and so it can be opened even tkhough it appears locked, but as it was a lift-off lid rather than a hinged one in David and Karen's trick I'm guessing it just wasn't secured down.

Having said that, the speed of it amazes me. Even though she was obviously out of the tank and waiting in front of it before he dropped down into it, the fact that they got the lid back on so quickly without her or him (or their assistants) having their hands on it when the curtain was removed was impressive!

The general public doesn't know how these tricks are done. But any judge on these shows has to have seen them 20 times each run. Often done badly enough that the trick HAS to be obvious.

Hi

There might have been a third assistant behind the curtain?

Getting away from how it was done as it does come across as a little pointless, did anyone else think Dec was flirting a bit with Karen???

Regards

i agree with no1chrisfan, the speed of the way the trick was executed was amazing. and of course the magic act was going to be a trick! thats what magics about! it doesnt matter if the lid was off or hollow lol its a trick get over it! the fact that they pulled it off and shocked us was their job done
