It's just gorgeous Chryed aren't just any old gay couple, their love story has been heart-wrenching and beautiful, and it's a shame not everyone can see that

I love that picture so much...not just cos it is hot (/:sleep but because it conveys so much of their relationship that we never get to see...the intimacy, love...how peaceful they are together in their private moments.

More fool them. They don't know what they're missing.

However the fact that we're here, thread 174 and still supporting them shows that the storyline has been well recieved and has a very loyal and strong fanbase. The Aarson and Siaophie threads have slowed down immensly though. Not that it matters how many parts you are on but they used to be as fast as us at one point.

I know there is a lot of homophobic hate on twitter but there is also alot of love for our couple. I see it in peoples tweets when doing searches. Youtube Chryed vids gets lots of hits and we have an INTERNATIONAL fanbase.

People on the main forum and elsewhere can berate Chryed, say that they have no chemistry whatever. However the reality is, they are a hit with the viewers and generally well recieved as a couple.

I wanted to write about how i felt about last nights episode,

Sorry for how long it is
I loved the point when Christian and Syed walked up to Tam and Afia to tell them that Christian had blabbed to Mas about their adoption plans. Bless Christian, I know he did not mean to let it out. He was being kind to Mas, holding out an olive branch and checking he is ok, when frankly massood did not deserve Christians act of kindess, and all he got back was hatred and Mas dismissing his and Syed's commitment to each other. I wish he had not told mas, but I can understand how it came about that he did. He was saying we love each other and we plan to have a family, he was demonstrating their commitment to each other. He knew that he had made a mistake, but that mistake was not without provocation and how many of us in the heat of the moment stop to think carefully about what we should say and how we say it. I know he thought it would be better to tell Zainab, as keeping secrets never works and he is right, the point about how zainab might be ok with it once she got used to the idea, now there he was sssssssssssssssooo wrong. I have to borrow Rhumba's magnificant turn of phrase here, there is being naïve and then there is being away with the fairies christian
I loved as they appraoched Tam, the look on Christian's face, sort of pissed off/ crossed with a petulant sulk. He had obivioulsy been told off by Syed for telling Mas when they had agreed to keep it between them and Tam. I understand why Syed would tell him off as he had been asked to keep it between them in the meantime. Yet Syed had obviously forgiven him and just wanted to find a soultion and decide what they should do next, he just can't stay angry at his big man. It’s the way Syed told on him and Christian going on about how mas winds him up, yet the very minute Afia seems to criticise them for wanting a child, they immediately forget they have had words and launch into a sort of drama queen performance (which was soooo cute) because they had not bothered to listen to what she was actually saying, it was so funny. I adored how faced with any sort of attack on there commitment to each other they immediately pulled together and defended each other.
Oh then we had the appearance of the screaming harridan, whose hateful and vicious words showed once again how she will only accept syed on her terms. The basis of the reconciliation was shown to be faulty because Zainab is essentially selfish and homophobic, she needed her son to support her once her marriage started to fall apart. But it had to be on her terms, she could not acdcept that he was gay, she stills sees it as unnatural and she wont accept that he and Christian love each other. She hurled abuse at her son and the man he loves, refering to Chrsitian as 'that' because she had been confronted with the evidenace that though Syed desparately wants to be reunited with her, he is not going to go back on his words to her in the vic, that she would have to accept the choices he had made, she through insults and once again hurts him. In the end, all that matters in zainabs world is zainabs feelings and needs.
I cheered when Syed stood up to her. He will take so much from his parents, but as he has proved so often, he will not stand by while they hurt the man he loves. He was brave and strong and she was shown yet again for what she is, selfish, hurtful and self-obessed.

I've noticed that. I don't know what the deal was with Sian/Sophie...well I think one if leaving, but it has seemed slower for a while now...and with Aaron...well I'm not surprised things have slowed down. It is strange how things have changed...at one point everyone was buzzing about the ED story but now the others have sort of taken over...again, I'm not surprised...nobody wants constant depression, crying, and barely any chemistry...say what you will about Chryed, but they are shown to be a couple.

I'm not surprised about the Aarson thread slowing down. I think the current storyline is reflected by the lack of discussion. Fans have been miserable over there for over a year now and everytime I pop in that thread, they're even sadder. I do feel bad for them. I don't watch ED but whole Aaron coming out had such a positive reception. That thread and the forum were buzzing over it at the time but it's taken a really unfortunate turn. As for Siophie, I don't know if its because ones leaving but its slowed down for quite a while now so I'm not sure. I mean even in our biggest blackhole (9 months) we were still here, waiting, hoping, not giving up, so it says a lot about the kind of fanbase we have.

Having said that, we have been a lot luckier than the other pairings. Would we still be here if EE did a Aarson on us? Blackholes are bad but at least characterisation doesn’t suffer too much because they’re not around to be exploited. Next to us, Stendan, are the fastest and most active thread here and understandably so. The storyline is interesting and so are the characters. Brendan and Ste have good chemistry too. I wouldn't call myself a fan but I see why they have a dedicated following.

I just look forward to whatever Chryed have this year. I have been really impressed with what we've been given these past two months so I look forward to whats to come, especially Yusefs involvement. He's fast becoming one of my favourites.

The sad thing about Syed's mum is that what she regards as "unnatural" for her son is natural for him. What was unnatural for Syed was being forced to marry a girl (lovely though she was) for whom he couldn't have full feelings. Sadly, I think many parents even in this day and age still want their own idea of "happiness" for their kids, because it is less "embarrassing" for them - or they want grandchildren etc.

Personally I'd rather have a gay son who was happy and content like Syed is, then a gay son being made miserable and unhappy because he feels he had to pretend to be something he wasn't.

When you see so many couples in EE using each other (Ryan/Janine or Jack/Rainie, even Tanya and her 2 men) it really is good to see two characters who just want each other and look so at ease with each other. I really do think Marc and John play their roles perfectly.

I think it's less that the Sophie/Sian fanbase quieted down- they just went elsewhere. A lot of their fanbase seems to be based around Twitter. Not really my style, but, tbh, I've watched quite a lot of that pairing and there's not really that much discussion you can get out of it, like Christian/Syed, Brendan/Ste and, formerly, Aaron/Jackson. They're a cute enough couple, but they don't really seem to do much, and their screentime has been as bad as Christian and Syed's, only they've never had a major plotline. I think it'd be quite realistic for Sophie and Sian to break-up- how many people end up with the person they lost their virginity to, really?

But, yeah, I definitely feel like I backed the right horse. I remember envying Aaron his screentime, and the quality of writing, but I was never particularly engaged. And Brendan/Ste seems good- the posters on the thread seem very intelligent, so there must be something there- but it's not really my thing, though it does seem worthy of the praise it gets.

Well said

When Syed and Zainab were talking on Monday, and Zainab said, "You know, when you were little, I would love to watch you fall asleep, and then I would pray that you would always be happy. That you would get married, have children. But often what’s round the corner is just sadness and disappointment." I wanted to shout at her... Syed IS happy, he's in love and he's loved by his partner, he CAN get married (well, close enough) and he CAN have children, even if they're not his biologically. It's like she can't physically understand that gay men can live fulfilled and happy lives

Rather than encourage him to be happy with who he is, she still seems to think that Syed should be as unhappy about his sexuality as she is.

I'm basing my knowledge purely from what I have read on here but I don't understand why, after such a positive reception for the story, they (ED) went and do such a depressing storyline

What I love with Chryed is that they do kiss, cuddle...we know they make love...admittedly I have never watched the ED story so am taking the views of other people on here who have...but I never *wanted* to watch it...and I think this was down to people saying how chemistry-free and lacking in actual coupleness it was...why have a gay couple if they barely touch?

Sadly the now deceased producer of Emmerdale, Gavin Blyth decided not long before his sad death, that the actor who plays Jackson (Marc Silcock) could have the choice of dying in a train crash or live on for eight months to take part in a revolting "assisted suicide" story. There has never been much chemistry between the two characters, mainly because the actor who plays Aaron is so up-tight. Jackson can only feel from the neck up but Aaron never touches his face, and Jackson's mother is a 24/7 chaperone to them.

The story is especially revolting since neither Jackson's mum or his "boyfriend" have ever encouraged him to receive therapy. He only ever sees the walls of his room and only his dad and one other character ever visit him. It's practically an advert for suicide, so one-sided is the story. That's why Syed and Christain are such a relief - life-affirming. I can't imagine either ever helping the other to die. Emmerdale has a very strange idea of love

If i'm going to lose my life to a new obsession I want it to be happy and, when it comes down to it, positive. Chryed, for all the angst, has been just that. It's a true love story with an ongoing happy ending (oxymoron but shush). Pain and drama can be great as long as it's balanced with some real joy and the characters grow, and the angst isn't there just for that sake of it - I sensed that was the case with Aaron but I might be wrong. I also have to like the actors and think they're pretty
