Between August 10 and March 11 I've been mostly pessemistic in my posts. It did my head in not seeing Chryed and the Masoods for months and months, while the likes of the Moon and Brannings hogged the screen. Most of my frustrations were targeted at BK.

However I have seen a change since the ABRC. Chryed are getting decent screentime and development. We've got all the stuff coming up with thier civil partnership and of course Syed's involvement with Yusef which should be interesting. I'm feeling optimistic for the first time in months.
More screentime, decent dialogue, character development and interesting and groundbreaking s/ls - lots to be pleased about.

I think Chryed may be kept most busy during late spring and summer; people watch less TV then, right? Less chance of complaints?

Ooooh.. Busted!

NYE 2011 could be a good discussion

WeaversGreen - Thank you for clearing that up!
BIB: Piper kiss? Don't get me started, I could complain about that until my hands fell off and I'd still have more to say

I don't think it's wrong to criticise the storyline when you think it's bad. Otherwise, your praise rings hollow. I'd feel like if I was pleased with everything, it sort of cheapens the storyline when it's actually good.

And definitely. There's been such a shift. I don't think all the problems have been magically fixed, and I'm still dreading the Moon influx, but things are definitely on the up, and I'm very optimistic for the future.

I liked NYE 2011 better than surrogacy. True story. At least we got a decent ep out of it, and it only lasted for three episodes. Surrogacy seemed neverending- it wasn't, really- and it was just horrible. I've never come closer to throwing the towel as when I first read the surrogacy spoilers, honestly, and this is after months of next to nothing. Thank God for Johnny's interview. <3

But it's so, so, so much better now. Both Christian and Syed have been brilliantly characterised, and their relationship has been very truthfully portrayed. I'm honestly not hard to please- as long as they're in-character and their relationship rings true, I'd watch them do anything. I love their characters and relationship so much, I always find them interesting to watch.

I actually couldn't. I write half a post and just end up at 'argh argh argh it makes no sense, it's so stupid'.

I honestly don't know how you managed to get this reputation as being negative, and I avoided it. I did nothing but complain (rightfully! I don't think I was being even remotely unreasonable, given how much praise I've given to the storyline when it merits it) for... four months? Five? My naturally cheery disposition shines through, clearly.
Yes, it is righteous indignation as far as I'm concerned.

BIB: Haha it beats me! For the same reason I have to suffer the indignities of the phrase 'ardchoile time' probably. Life is not fair.

On the plus side, IRL I am quite the cheery smiler. This doesn't seem to translate so well on here.

NYE2011 though - do you and CC have a time machine?

I won't go into that whole NYE2010 thing again today - I feel soiled and dirty after talking about it earlier. The wounds are still too fresh.

I also saw this tweet so bad but it actually made me laugh

@LeFonk: Why did Christian cross the road? To get to the other Syed. #Eastenders

That's the point- I watch the storyline for Christian and Syed. When it's someone who looks like Christian, but acts nothing like him, why should I care? No matter how well Johnny acted with some absolutely atrocious material, it could never overcome the fundamental flaw- not only would Christian never act like that no person ever in their right mind ever would. AR described it fabulously the other night, she described it as not only 'OOC' but 'OOH'- Out of Human.

However, when they're in-character and their relationship is true to itself, I could happily watch them argue about changing the sheets. They've got so much chemistry and they have such a fascinating dynamic, I'm sure they could make that interesting.

D'oh. You knew what we meant. I'm hoping NYE 2011 will be better than the past two for both of them.

It has to be, SURELY!!!!! /famous last words

And yes, I agree, I'd watch in-character true Chryed forever, doing anything (I love OOH, that is so it!!!). Leaving random sperm donations in Roxy's flat was never part of that remit. Sometimes I wonder if that was really on EE or I just imagined it.

Don't really agree with that article's comment that Syed is suffering from 'internalized homophobia'. He sees his parent's POV and understands it because he used to feel like that too and loves them. Doesn't mean he shares those views anymore. During the early surrogacy s/l (yawn) he did say something about it going against what he believes but since he changed his mind I took it to mean it was an instinctive reaction but after seeing how much C wanted it (and being forced to consider it) he realised he wanted it and believed it was ok too.

You can be gay, or any other object of prejudice, but understand why people hold said prejudices........and when you love the people who hold them even forgive it - and Syed has told them to stuff it several times (ie. Vic defence) so there

ETA - Accepting it doesn't mean you let it stop you. In the face of his mother's wrath and disgust last night Syed said defiantly 'we love each other and want a family' - can't see an internal struggle there
You put this perfectly ..I totally agree.

You're right, there is no sense in it, their complaints are utterly illogical...I feel pity for anyone who doesn't see this as beautiful
Just gorgeous and beautiful. I can live without 4 nipples if I have to.

The sad thing about Syed's mum is that what she regards as "unnatural" for her son is natural for him. What was unnatural for Syed was being forced to marry a girl (lovely though she was) for whom he couldn't have full feelings. Sadly, I think many parents even in this day and age still want their own idea of "happiness" for their kids, because it is less "embarrassing" for them - or they want grandchildren etc.

Personally I'd rather have a gay son who was happy and content like Syed is, then a gay son being made miserable and unhappy because he feels he had to pretend to be something he wasn't.

When you see so many couples in EE using each other (Ryan/Janine or Jack/Rainie, even Tanya and her 2 men) it really is good to see two characters who just want each other and look so at ease with each other. I really do think Marc and John play their roles perfectly.
Lovely post.

Between August 10 and March 11 I've been mostly pessemistic in my posts. It did my head in not seeing Chryed and the Masoods for months and months, while the likes of the Moon and Brannings hogged the screen. Most of my frustrations were targeted at BK.

Yes! and after a decent amount of screentime for once we're not looking into a big black hole..

Take care. Glad you enjoyed last nights so much. Your post reminded me of when Zainab the fragile turned up sounding and looking like a wailing banshee having an argument with a ferocious fishwife...it did make me laugh that Tam wanted to do a runner and then Christian said should he go and Syed said NO! LOL suddenly not so keen on telling Zainab all about it. Usually he wants to be involved too! It was quite funny.

It can't be much worse.

We were talking about it the other night, 'cos we're masochists, and, oh, God. It's so ridiculous when you think about it, you have to laugh. Our personal sticking point is Christian's look of realisation/horror after he's agreed to take it slow. As if it'd just slip your mind you'd just wanked in a pot and left in your best mate's fridge, and you'd forget to mention it to your boyfriend.

On the topic of moaning, for my vid I'm flicking through the clips of Chryed since last July and the only ones I can't watch are most of the episodes between October (after Happy Monday) and 3rd January this year... and a few of the surrogacy ones... which isn't actually very many at all

I must be easily pleased
