^of course not ALL do it, just the two I mostly used to fill in the gaps when I gave up on my comicstore do it for me and way eBaying ~30.
Yes, I realised you meant that eBay allows vendor controlled pricing on P&P and that it's only some vendors which have choosen to stand the cost of P&P themselves.

When it comes to general online shopping sites, I'm more used to the likes of Amazon where the P&P charges are set at site level, not vendor level (at least for these types of items), and where there's _always_ a charge for P&P.

So once again, thanks for pointing me to the eBay comic stores.

So a "revamp" not a "reboot". Not sure whether that is a good thing. I would have quite liked to have seen what the aftermath of Crisis on Infinite Earths could have been. With all the writers on board with a new universe. Not to be it appears

There's a lot of speculation that the reboot may finally undo the horrendous Super-marriage. If that's the case, it gets a provisional thumbs up from me.

Superman has been married for 15 years, what on Earth is wrong with that?

Superman and Lois Lane shouldn't be married. It just doesn't work. It was a horrid, desperate publicity stunt that completely undermined the fundamental dynamic behind the characters that had existed for nearly 60 years.

A dynamic that had gotten stale and ridiculously trivial by the time we got to the 1990s. Thank god they ended it. Not only should they be married, they should really be having kids by now.

Not at all, and no more stale or trivial than any other aspect of the character. Should we also get rid of the cape? That things been around for a while, right? And who really needs to fly? Wouldn't Superman be more super, or "rad" even, if he traveled by skateboard?

When Superman got an animated show in the 90s, there was no marriage, and it's generally considered to be one of the best incarnations of the character. Similarly, when Lois & Clark (with all its flaws) was made, they used the will-they-won't-they formula, and the show died on its ass as soon as they got married, just like the comic book sales have done since the marriage. It simply has to go. Marvel was smart enough to recognize that the Spider-marriage was a mistake. Hopefully DC will follow suit.

Not only should they be married, they should really be having kids by now.
They've kind of already tried that with the adopted kid named ... Chr... <gags uncontrollably> ... Chri... <gags uncontrollably again>... Chris. Complete disaster.

It sounds like some of the changes will be pretty huge - Barbara Gordon being reinstated as Batgirl being one of them.

I'm intrigued by the revamp. I've tried for years to dip into DC Comics but the continuity is horrendous; everything has been all over the place for what seems like a long time. I think this could be a good thing if it will make the comics more accessible.

I've just been looking at the teasers/covers for the Superman titles and it looks to me like Action Comics could be placing Superman as the first hero in the DCU again, with Superman telling "modern" tales.

If so that is interestingly going to place Superman at the heart and start of the DCU, with all other heroes coming afterwards. Perhaps explains his "evolved" costume in Superman if he has been around so long he may keep refreshing his style Wonder if there will be other "past" suites shown in Action?

If this is the direction they hav taken then Action will be very different what we have seen before, and Superman wil be showing a very slowly ageing, experienced hero and not the young hero many were expecting.

Does anyone else read it this way?

At this point, I no longer care. It seems they've dumped the Golden Age characters, and since they, and in particular the Justice Society, have been my main reason for buying DC since 1976, I'm not going to be wasting any more money on them after the reboot. This isn't my DC Universe anymore, and having gone through all this once before back in 1985, I'm too old to do it again. I think DC have really let their longtime fans down.

It is a reboot. They've said they won't be going back. If they do, it'll be because the new direction has failed.

re: Flashpoint - didn't follow it as (basically) anything non-Batman doesn't really hold much interest, but just wikipedia'd it and have to ask: If Flashpoint is/was set in a different universe were things were different to our universe (hence it being a different universe). Anyway, if it's set in a different universe, why should we be interested in it at all. How does THAT universe affect OUT universe ???

Flashpoint is still ongoing. It isn't set in a different universe-the basic premise is, the Reverse Flash is altering the timeline so that 'our' universe becomes different. After Flashpoint, the universe will be reset, but it seems that a lot of the previous continuity will no longer exist. No more Justice Society, Superman's costume and history changed, no more Lois and Clark wedding, Barbara Gordon will never have been crippled, Hawkman no longer a Golden Age character....basically, it's a mess. The only things staying relatively unchanged are the Green Lantern books because Geoff Johns likes them.

When I first read the announcement, as I said in my first post, I thought "not again".

However, all of the Flashpoint titles have been very good. Some exceptional: World of Flashpoint for example,

The creative teams on the new titles look to be inspired choices and some of the new titles look intriguing.

I am now really looking forward to all things Flashpoint and its aftermath.

I sort of know how you feel. I've read comics since 1966 and loved the JSA since I read my first JLA/JSA crisis. (The one with Ant-Matter Man in.)

However, I would like to see the JSA back on a separate Earth again. Roy Thomas etc. did some really interesting things with them when they weren't part of main DC continuity.

The Huntress was a far more interesting character on Earth 2 as was Power Girl.

I don't think we'll be seeing them again anywhere anytime soon. I shall stick with my old issues of JSA, All-Star Comics, Adventure Comics, JLA, Infinity Inc and All-Star Squadron and leave Dan Didiot and his friends to screw up the new DCU without my having to see it. It's just a shame they went out with a whimper rather than a bang.

:bigthanx:

complex storylines (in other comics I ain't following) (that are mega-huge game changers) which can be described in one sentence, well they just rock

DC must be in real trouble to be doing this. Surely the way forward is to retire most of the old characters and move on to new 21st century ones and give them a marketing big push. Controversial I know but surely no more so than this reboot. There are iconic characters that were created after the 1960s such as Judge Dread and Tank Girl.

One last thing (for now at least )

Ok, I get how the reboot/rejig is happening, time travel (marvellous plot device), but this confuses me.

All the comics storylines take place in the current day, ie. now, 2011. (ish).

When September comes along and we start having stories from the post-Flashpoint era, they're going to still be set in the current day, right ?!

So how (according to the various internet musings I've read) have the ages of various superheroes been changed (reduced),

Or (1) am I missing something and/or (2) are all these internet musings basically just guessing what will happen and thus shouldn't be taken as 100% correct.

I think all your questions are to answer in the comics themselves zwixxx. It all seems very messy to me. Sure, every publisher is desperate for new readers but this doesn't seem to be the way to go about it unless you're trying to appeal to primary school kids who know little of superhero history.

This thread could do with a new name as not everyone realises that Flashpoint is the start of the DC comics reboot. What's the best thread title?

No. It is because the actual continuity, the history of the characters, is being retroactively altered. They are saying that in their new titles, most of the current stories and older stories will be considered never to have happened at all.

^I get, after reboot day,"many of the great happens in Batmans past which have affected him and how he does his job won't have happened and thus not affect him" thing. - just like the Star Trek reboot, time travel used to change Kirks history (and everyone elses). But now the Star Trek movies are following Kirk as a youngster, shifting back umpteen years from when Star Trek X (or XI ?) was set.

But if current comics are set around present day and Bruce is ~50 ish, and after reboot the comics are also set around present day won't Bruce STILL be ~50 and NOT the ~25-30 that has been mentioned in the forums. Or during the whole Flashpoint storyline was his birthday shifted forward 10/20 years, or will stories no longer be set current day but 10/20 years ago.

OR is my "comics are set present day" just a big ball of wrong.

They will change Batman's and nearly all the superheroes bright date. There's no point doing the reboot if you're going to end up with a 50 year old Batman if you're trying to appeal to a younger generation. They don't want Batman to be like their dad. I think it's a case of forget what you know.

^ They could have just:
(1) stop all their range for 1 month
(2) brought out a single comic called The Time Altering Wizard
(3) in which he takes his big magic wand, waves it all over the DC Universe
(4) changing EVERYTHING
(5) and then restart the range in their new post-Wizard #1 forms
(6) and have all the #1zies being with the respective heroes waking up, going WTF was that and wow, doesn't my suit look all new and snazzy and/or hey now my legs are working.

QED.
