If we are going to start ticking boxes, have there ever been any participants with a disability or cross gender?

As long as there is a good mix, I don't think it matters.
It would concern me more if there was 1 black male in every series. That would seem more of a token gesture.

looking at the apprentice i see a broad range of people, the only "..ist" is that its an equal split of male/female rather than the best 16 people or should there have to be a token "xxxx" person in the 16 which could make it fun when we need a token lesbian widow of a non caucassian descent or the program will not be aired

If Wikipedia is correct (yes, probably not) then black people make up only 2% of the population, which means The Apprentice, if anything, has over-represented black people on the show!!

...not that I'm suggesting they should reduce the numbers! But at the same time they shouldn't feel compelled to have a black candidate to fit some PC quota.”

I agree .If anything they sometimes get over represented compared to the UK population percentage , whereas some regions of the UK get under their fair representation for geordies and Welsh / Scots etc .

And that guy from last year who told Margaret he was a "key cog" - but I can't remember his name.

Smart man, reasonable answer. After weeks of gruelling tasks, why get 50% of the accolade by having another "winner" on the show.

I suppose that depends on whether you're there for the job or to be able to declare yourself the "winner", really.

I'd imagine by the end, it was both for him.

The pettiness at the start of this post sums it up. You have answered your own question.

Wow. Are you suggesting producers or researchers select candidates by their ethnicities, rather than by their application forms?

Probably the best 'Apprentice' out of all the UK and USA ones.

Astonishingly, that does actually happen in certain professions.

The black guys should think themselves lucky, there have only ever been two scousers on The Apprentice, yet everyone knows we are found all over the fooking place. I hate regionalism!

They need more black men. We all know all white women fancy black men.

And being more concerned about being declared the "winner" than in having the company you're about to get a job at have the best assets it can possibly have to do well makes him "smart" and "reasonable", does it?

Tim Campbell who won, Ansell who didn't win but went far and was a great contestant. There have probably been others but we always remember the people with personalities, whether they win or lose, regardless of race.

If we're going to look at demographics, there is a disproportionate under-representation of people over 40 in The Apprentice.

I don't like this sort of thread either, but I'm posting on it because I'm bored and too tired to climb the wooden hill. Oh yeah, and I've got arthritis in me knees

If the OP actually wants an answer to the question, then I'm sure the information is all there. It was obviously a rhetirical question, asked for "effect". I really don't care whether they close the thread or not though.

And what was wrong with that on a program whose entire premise is to award the prize to one Apprentice? If you want to take umbrage with anyone, take it up with Trump for asking the rightful winner such a moronic question.

No, quite the opposite. The candidates have been picked for other qualities - nothing to do with their ethnicity.
If they were selected by their ethnicities, then there would have been 1 black man in every series.

Not Chinese specifically but Tuan Le in Series 2 is from an Oriental background.

I can't remember any Welsh candidates

He would still be the winner and would still get the job. I don't see what he gained by denying another person a job too.

We saw his true character at that moment.

Tre has a painful back problem, which I would think counts as an invisible disabilty.

However the nature of the show is quite exclusive - I thought about applying but as a wheelchair user could not get in the house (I need a stairlift and an adapted bathroom, among other things) and would struggle with tasks where people are going door to door e.g. with the car wash task in previous series, or physically doing some of the activities (working in a factory, unless there was appropriate seating, and so on).

I run my own business and The Apprentice does interest me but I've always felt there was no point in applying. I guess SurAlan would expect me to crawl up stairs if I wanted it enough...

True.

A scouser will be found on the moon one day
I am disappointed with the lack of Northerners on The Apprentice....and cute men

Seriously- who cares?
