So, I was paying £10.21 per month for 200 minutes, 3000 texts and no internet. Then my mate gave me a smart phone so I though I'd look about for a good deal that includes internet and found a reasonable one with Tesco Mobile: 250 minutes, 5000 texts and 500mb of internet for £10 a month.

I phoned Virgin for my PAC and in short, ended up with 600 minutes, 3000 texts and 1gb of internet for £9.43 from Virgin. I barely use the house phone now.

I know it's stating the obvious but it pays to shop around in the hope of getting a better deal or forcing your current provider into giving you a better one.

Lets just hope you don't have to phone their customer services for anything. They takes ages to answer, the computers are always down and they are, IMO, a lot worse than 3.

Horrible horrible company, I wouldn't take another contract with them if they paid me

Really? Sounds like Virgin Media's dragged them down then. They used to consistently have the best CS year in year out.

I'm surprised at the negativity in relation to Virgin. I've got to say, my experience with customer services has been very good and they appear to be based in the UK. The folk that I have spoken in relation to my mobile have all been British. There were one or two technical hitches which resulted in me getting the 600 minutes instead of 300, but it was nothing major so can't really grumble too much about it.

We've got our BB and home phone with Virgin and again, it's been good. I suppose it's like any big company, they're going to mess up from time to time. Our BB so far has been quick, and the one time I did have to phone them regarding a brief outage, they explained that there was a problem in my area and phoned me back to let me know that the problem had been fixed. The guy that did sounded like he was Indian but I could tell what he was saying very easily so no issues there.

I did see the piece on Watchdog though about Virgin Holidays. That seemed to be a bit of a shambles.

Virgin Mobile are closing (or already have) the UK call centre in Trowbridge for an Indian one.

I recently lost my phone and it took 3 calls to India to sort out a replacement SIM which they replaced free of charge, but it really is pot luck with which operator you get.

When they did have a UK call centre, the British staff have been nothing short of excellent, which has kept me as a customer since 2003.

That's a big part of it whoever you're with. Like anything else, you get good ones and bad ones. It's a shame they're getting rid of the British call centre. Like you, my experience of the operators there has been very good. It was more the technical side of things where some minor issues arose which necessitated my calling them back.

I typically consider customer support with everything i buy but must admit i dont give customer service a second thought when chosing a phone i am totally price about price/speed/offer when it comes to the provider. In 10+ years i think ive only had to contact customer services twice and neither were life or death situations.

That's certainly the case with my mobile broadband which with 3, however my dealings with their CS have been nothing short of dire. I ended up emailing their executive office before speaking to someone in Maidenhead.
