Yes he did connect with the public however why and how are the questions; I could go into this in depth however I choose not do so as it has been done so before. However what interests me is the fact that this has been thrown in as grist again making us sift through material we had already gone through during the show; how do we know which were the grains of truth we don't we just trusted in the mill and the mechanism which ground out the end product. Oh I agree with you there was nom doubt in my mind that Matt had not only a fantastic voice but that he was able to communicate with those he was singing to making them feel as if he was singing the song just for them.

On another note, I think Matt needs to share the love on his FB page. It's been a long time and people need some interaction. Wonder why it's been left for so long? Caused his membership to stagnate a bit. Normally Matt's social media people put something on. I know it's probably a pain to keep FB updates but its the modern way of keeping in touch and people expect it. FB is such a simple and effective way of keeping people engaged during the quiet times.

Yes they need to get it together .................normally there are Matt tweets or messages from Matt why are they not doing this. You are right it is a simple effective way of keeping people interested especially with regards the album.

Especially as there are far fewer followers on twitter than on FB. Most people I know are not on twitter and if they are find it hard to understand. FB is still the chosen home of social media and Matt should really be socialising.....even if he is working really hard on his album and creating wonderful songs etc.

Lennon, we have bemoaned a lot recently about such things, and the lack of tweeting. He did reply to a couple yesterday, and they didn't bite him!!!! It's SO DAMN easy to do this stuff. He's got a very loveable personality - he could share this with people even if he can't share any music at present.

Noticed that his tweets are no longer linked to his Facebook. Maybe after the t**t tweet. Maybe thought it was safer but yeah he or they need to put updates on there!

Never thought of that. Maybe his media people could copy over his happy tweets non-sweary tweets.

gosh some interesting discussions going on tonight...I am in no doubt Matt was protrayed in a certian way to manipulate the public opionions some of it I am sure he agreed with other things I am sure he just "bent over" to survive..
we all know now that he sang a longer version of 'first time" at bootcamp..Matt let that titbit slip in an interview also the fact he wanted to sing another song in his audition..
I think he became a contender at bootcamp..thats why they went back to focus on his audition...bootcamp was filmed before the auditions were on the TV...cher must have known she was through to judges houses when she went on goodmorning TV
I think the Matt was put within the boys cat..to cover up the fact they had taken all the "pretty boys" for 1d..they had to put some more interesting contenders in there...
Never got to the bottem of the suposed relationship with "shewho" was that just a publicity stunt who knows...
I think Matt had to go along with some manipulation of his image he had no choice ..and to be honest he is not a fool ..he signed up for it..I am hoping that the essence of the Man who was protrayed on TV is "him"..from what I have seen since I have no reason to doubt it..

going to disagree a bit here I think he was one of potential winners as such but I also think aiden was as well but they dropped him pretty quickly when his vote started to slide..
I stilll think syco..simon cowell would have prefered 1d..cher..or even rebecca...Matt was the bookies favourite from the start so they had to be careful how they handled him..all the press about him being a "bad boy" could have gone either way to be honest...didnt work for Danyl the year before..
with what been going on recently with danni. cheryl..I honestly think simon is a hard marketing man.. he has agreed to sigh matt over to columbia because he is a better fit with them..if he is not successful he won't worry about it he will wash his hands of the whole thing and move on ..I hope the GBP can see through him but sadly he still gets the viewers week in and week out

1LL: Yep…I agree with regard to Matt’s music career - he seems to be getting what he wants. I feel sorry for Rebecca though because from the outset she was portrayed as some kind of jazzy torch singer….if the producers wanted her to move around, she’d have moved around….strangely she managed it ok on tour (of course she was more confident by then …) and, for me, her winner’s single - it didn’t feel like a great vehicle to convey “emotion” ( ….can’t really remember that much about it tbh..)

TT - In most instances, cream does rise to the top…but in a show like XF nothing is left to chance; if the producers had wished it, Matt could have been edited badly etc and sunk like a stone. Take Wagner, for example, yes, he is a fat, middle-aged lothario….but for all we know, he’s probably also a doting father, performs for free at his local village hall, gets the shopping in for his aged neighbours…..but we never get to hear about that…

Along those lines, the big jaw drop moment - boot camp - the producers asked Matt to sing FTEISYF - if they’d aired the M5 song, would he have picked up the momentum he did pre the live shows? I don’t think so.

I agree with you its would be so lovely of a fantastic singer songwriter like Matt to do that as his fans really adore him as a person and as a talented musician. Lets hope this happens. However whilst saying the above do other artists like Adele have contact with their fans I wonder on FB? If the other artists don; I wonder how they keep in contact if they don't have FBs and a twitter account. Oh and how did we keep in contact with the artists prior to FB and Twitter? I know what I would do but hey ho.

Well at the risk of upsetting any Rebecca fans on here I think that Becs struggles to convey anything in her songs because, though she has a striking voice she has about three notes. I have barely heard any singer before with such a limited range. sorry ......

I just dont think Matt is a twitter/facebook sort of person and comfortable with all the media image stuff..he never had twitter before he went on X factor
I just think his is into his music and that what he focuses on..I agree it a shame and maybe thats why he was never successful before because he has little regard for image
hopefully someone will remind him that a little contact with fans goes a long way

I know it was on the list of 40 songs but I don't know if he was "asked" to sing it, though (perhaps I am being naive in thinking not every tiny detail is manipulated to the hilt???)

Also though we are in June there is still no definate date listed for one directions single, still just says June. and their album isnt listed at all.
