I am planning to purchase a Media Player so I can connect it up to my HDTV via HDMI connection, I have 1080p movies that are 6-20GB each, I want to watch the 1080p movies without any lag, could you suggest me a good Media Player that is good, my budget is £150-200. I am thinking of building a HTPC but don't know if I should buy a Media Player or build a HTPC

I've got a couple of media players. The Asus Oplay will play your 1080p files with no problems and is well under your budget. Plays most formats including DVD iso files with menus.

The interface is not as slick as some and you may need to update the firmware. Some other features are a bit buggy (wireless & online features), but the core function - playing media files - is great.

I tried several media players and found personal faults or flaws with all of them, but now have a WDTV-live and its the best thing I ever bought... I love everything about it.

The gui is really easy to use unlike some, it wires to my router and can play from usb or my pc hdd's, plays anything you throw at it, inc dvd and BD iso, and 1080p plays from usb or my pc over the lan with no lag at all..

I also like that unlike most others it downconverts DTS to 2.0 over hdmi for when we dont want the surround on, ie late at night when kids are in bed, some players I tried would only pass thru DTS to optical, and so you got no audio thru hdmi when playing DTS files..

I have loads of large mkv like you, inc a 45gig mkv full rip of my avatar bluray, and it plays it perfectly over the lan..
