Glenn did the right thing imo.
Leon and co were so happy with Lucky fish, but if Glenn hadn't put his foot down they would of lost, seeing as it was the dietry aspect of his brand and marketing that won them the task on what otherwise was a poor performance in every other aspect.

Kudos to Glenn for sticking to his guns.

I know. I felt the focus group were just being kind!

I definitely seem to be in the minority, but I didn't see much wrong with the play on words with 'Cats Eyes' and 'CatSize' for a product that was focusing on keeping/making cats slim. Perhaps the 'see their light' thing was a bit much, but I thought it was a good brand name.

I think the pun was unnecessary really, ok that was where the idea started but Cat's Eyes have nothing to do with weight.

Agreed, Cat's Eyes have nothing to do with weight, but Cat Size does, with a play on words with a familiar feline phrase.

Not sure what Lucky Fish has to do with cat food, as the fish wouldn't be very lucky if it ended up in the tin! Or was the fish supposed to feel privileged that it was being killed to feed a cat?

Looking at established cat food brands, we have Whiskas, Felix and GoCat. CatSize seems to fit in better with those, than say 'IAMS' - what does that have to do with cats? And their advert slogan 'I am an IAMS cat'...rather cheesy for me.

Lucky fish was a silly name but they may have got away with it because they did get the approval of the focus group. They also had a more interesting idea for the advert so that could have been better too.

It's almost a shame Glenn didn't go with Lucky Fish as the comedy value in the ad and the concept being pulled apart would have been brilliant, but he was right as it was a really dodgy idea!!

Lucky Fish on a cat food can would have been just bizarre, everyone would have thought it was fish food. I didn't get the 'catch of the day' slogan as this implied the cat food was made with fish so that fish wasn't lucky at all. Also the concept was flawed as there was no USP ... not all cat's live in homes with goldfish in bowls and to claim the food is more entertaining than watching a fish swim round is just bizarre!!
Leon and Zoe should be grateful Glenn said no or it would prob have been them in the taxi!

Glen's name was way better. (Shoulda been "See they're light" though.)

Not at all impressed with that mardy sub-team being all passive-aggressive that he didn't pick their (inferior) brand name. I hope the useless Helen goes next.

Ah, so they have at least one customer. Did you buy it because you liked its name or because of the adverts? Or was it something you saw on the shelves and liked, either because of its packaging appearance or contents? Or was it a recommendation from a fellow cat owner.

Perhaps I'm just awkward. If I see a TV advert that I find annoying, I will do my best not to buy that product unless the product itself seems to be outstanding. For example, I hated those dreadful Bounty/Plenty kitchen towelling adverts with the two transvestites smearing spillages all over the place and went out of my way not to buy that brand as a result of the advert. As you can see, I am a rebel.

It's impossible to say how the Lucky Fish idea would have turned out had it been developed. I am inclined to think it would fail for the same reason no-one tries to sell mouse-flavoured cat food. Maybe the advert would have reversed that, though.

This was exactly my thinking - I thought it was a much better concept, which came pre-packaged with an advert and possible package design. I would have changed the name for something clearer though, that made it more obvious it was a cat food - I think they'd have been onto a winner then. The advert would have been better than the one they ended up with at least!

The CatSize idea was a good one, but I dont think they pulled it off to be honest. The LuckyFish ad would have worked much better.

I think the lucky fish wouldn't have been good because they were using the possibility of one advert to dictate their branding. There would have been absolutely no USP unless you really thought they could pull off saying it would stop cats killing goldfish.

I liked the idea of making it into a pseudo Japanese cartoony-styled advert, so the 'preventing cats from killing goldfish' would be seen as something tongue-in-cheek and people would REMEMBER the ad (and hopefully buy the product).

Been using Iams for nearly 20 years with our cats. Well before they started advertising on TV. I was recommended by the vet, because one cat was having stomach problems and it was better for her. I certainly would never go back to tinned food.

I use Iams for my cats too.

Before that, I fed my dog Eukanuba which was Iams before the re-brand.

It is quality food, rather than all the Whiskas and Chum and so forth which has made all of the animals sick.

It's also good that it's freely available nowadays.

I agree. I've read a couple of messageboards, and I think I might be the only person on the net who likes the name 'lucky fish'. It's a darn sight better than catsize, which sounds a bit like capsize to me- ie. a boat turning over and sinking.

It could really work, with a bit of Japanese writing on the can, the manga cat as you said, a funny advert with the manga cat being some kind of superhero, with a Banzai-style voiceover. It'd sell well to ironic hipsters and people who like comicbooks and trash TV.

If I had a catfood company, I'd bring out a 'lucky fish' brand right now- after all, it's the name on everyone's lips! That's the kind of advertising you want! (simples!) It's a lot more memorable than Everycat or Dogsize or whatever they were called.
