How could I forget Izal toilet paper?

My Dad thought it was brilliant for some obscure reason, but thankfully my Mum didn't......so the compromise was two toilet rolls, one for Izal the other for normal toilet paper!

Strange thing about Izal was it was so easy to 'get it wrong' and end up with brown fingers!

Izal. Sadly no longer manufactured.

A recent review revealed that the paper wasn't quite as hardcore in the years leading up to its demise.

Toilet roll dollies are a bit WTF regardless of paper brand though.

I was in hospital last week and they had it - or similar.

Do all hospitals have it? Horrible stuff, I'd prefer newspaper squares if it's because they are trying to save money.

How would you know that

Did all grans have those loo-roll-dolls back in the early '80s or was it just mine?”

One of mine did, a home-made flamenco dancer. She also made us one shaped like a wizard, from green felt, which lasted until my brother knocked it down the loo.

The last place I saw tracing paper loo roll was in the dentists' I used to go to.

Because we had an old tin bath in front of the fire to take a bath in - one after the other we saw a lot of each others bodies in those days on bath night. 3 of us girls first in the water then Nan and Mum, another kettle of water to warm it up again and Dad and Grandad got it last.

Makes me appreciate the power shower we have now !

Imagine it hadn't been invented yet and you went on Dragon's Den with it.

Wasn't it nicknamed "John Wayne" toilet paper - because it "don't take no sh*t from no-one"!

They use to have it in our local Social Security Office. Each sheet had 'Property of HM Government' printed on it and the edges were so sharp you could perform a DIY hemorrhoid removal operation with it

That stuff was bloody awful.

It would never absorb any shit at all - but instead just spread it all around your arse hole like you were decorating a chocolate cake.

It was only effective when folded several times so you could use it to scrape the shit off.

****DISCONTINUED PRODUCT****

For all customers wishing to purchase Izal Toilet Paper in any form (roll or flats) we are sorry to announce that this product is no longer manufactured and we have no more stock. Unfortunately the manufacturer was unable to justify another production run due to the enormous amounts that had to be made.

Who the frig still wants to buy this stuff? Dirty ringpiece fetishists?

You can still find it. On ships. I visited an old battleship a while ago and there was a tiny toilet tucked away somewhere, or should I say head. Anyway I was shocked and dismayed to find tracing paper toilet roll, each piece stamped with a royal crown. I didn't bother half-inching any of that stuff.

Does anyone still use this?”

Yes I can remember in primary school. One day a few of us got some tissue, wet it and threw it on the walls like balls. We got caught by the caretaker and he gave us a good earful. I bet if it he was like the caretaker in Waterloo Road he would've got us on the ladder to get it all down, lol.
