I really don't think that's right, the difference is probably less than £20 a year if you watch TV for 5 hours a day on average (and I watch less). Hardly worth even considering it unless you are a green energy freak at home, and if you were, you probably wouldn't have a TV at all! My 3 year old plasma 42 incher uses between 120 and 220 watts for most of what I view - average less than 200 watts. Measured with a mains plug power meter.
Of course, if you love a dazzlingly bright picture as in showrooms, and watch with all your lights on at home, you'd use more than that but you have a choice, and I choose not to do that (it would hurt my eyes!).
