I think it was clear from TSAJ that they'd been over this ground several times, as well as in the OK mag articles and Josie said on several TV programmes they were always rowing. Anyone watching that programme could see that John didn't look like his former self, he looked tired, drained, and generally p*ssed off with it all. So perhaps the only way he thought he could deal with it was by calling her bluff and going back to Oz which was what she kept telling him to do. He seemed clear that he was coming back but something obviously was said in that phone call that killed that intention. We just don't know what.

Some could see it that way. I see it as he really was goin back to take some time out but than somethin happened which changed his mind and the relationship was finished in his mind.

I think though because of what we saw had been happenin though, arguments etc, he didnt actually mean it as banter this time.

Qwerty hadn't asked the question when John said he would answer. Qwerty had just said will you answer some straight forward questions and John said yes. Then Qwerty said "what's your favourite colour?" jokingly and then the real question.
So John didn't pick Qwerty's question out of lots of versions of the same thing. He specifically picked Qwerty and then waited to find out what he would ask.
