I've been unemployed for eight months now, and the job centre have sent me on a mandatory work course (including a work placement) which is run by Seetec. On paper, I thought this would be brilliant and could give me the help I need to finally be successful in applying for a job, but they've been nothing but wildly unhelpful since the start.

The 'work placement' they've sent me on is in a clothes shop, where I do nothing but stand around being bored all day (and, seeing as I want to go into healthcare not retail, this placement is next to worthless in terms of work experience - which they knew before they put me there). They've ignored my requests to speak to someone about changing placement, and when I mentioned I might be able to get a months work placement through Teenage Cancer Trust - which would be in healthcare so actually useful to me - I was told I would have to work it in around the shop placement.
I'm not in the Seetec office every day, because some days I'm in the shop, but the days I am I always get more done in the half hour I get at home before cooking in the evening than I do in the entire 6 hours I'm at Seetec - again, which I've told them but they don't care. A couple of times I've had to go in on days I'm not actually supposed to be there just because my advisor was away - without letting me know - on the days when I was there and needed to go through my timesheet/job log/etc with him. This whole thing is a waste of my time, the only reason I'm going at all is because I need my benefits in order to afford food, etc, and I really don't like that they're not only not helping me, they're making things harder for me as well. I need help in finding a job, but I'm just doing the exact same thing I've been doing for the past 8 months just on computers which don't work properly and that I have to share with two dozen other people.

So...anyone know a complaints procedure? I'm not holding my breath for anything to actually get done, but...well, you never know!

The first things to be cut will affect the claimants. There's no money for people to be put on courses to get people skills any more, things such as forklift licenses etc all out the window.

Yes, I was very lucky my group were the last to do a sage course at our local college. I've just been put on new deal, again one of the last. I finished Seetec last week ( which I really enjoyed and found very helpful) the staff there were very worried as they had lost their bid for the new work programme and were genuinely thinking they were going to be unemployed.

Seetec are a joke. i'm on a placement with them but not with an employer. there's 27 of us that have to go to Seetec every day for 4 weeks for oyr placement because Seetec get money from the government if we are there and not out working in a charity shop instead.

we had a talk yesterday for 2 hours about who's your favourite singer and what's your favourite film. a whole list of questions that we all answer individually.

there was a woman there who could have had a placement at a hospital but she was mad because the dole and Seetec said she couldn't do it because they wanted her to go and be bored out of her brains at Seetec instead for 4 weeks.

these companies are always losing the contracts. a new one pops up every year and it's going to be better than all the previous ones.

no they're not. they just get you to come in and sign your name so they get paid and you get paid. when it comes to help you ask for they say we haven't got the funding or go and see the jobcentre about it.

the jobcentre tell you that Seetec is responsible for you while you are with them it's nothing to do with them.

one day the printer for the computers to print out our CVs and jobs and stuff wasn't working. the staff were told and it went on for a couple of hours of not being able to print things. they put an out of order notice on it.

I looked at the printer jobs on the computer. the problem was it was out of paper. over 2 hours for someone to realise the thing wanted paper, and that's only because someone with no brain and on the dole told them!

it's a joke.

Seetec deliberately put a low tender bid in because they didn't want the contract anymore. the contract was supposed to be for 5 years.

Today we did a 3 hour talk on how to survive in the desert!

I've either lost it, or Seetec's brainstormer has.
