He's just announced his departure on Twitter.

Well I'm really really sorry. He's been completely wasted on the Oaks and no question. I loved all his scenes with Doug, they were great, but they gave him too much stupid comedy - snakes FFS! He's been there a year and they gave him about 2 episodes of 'arranged marriage' and he hasn't had any other decent story since Doug took an overdose back in October or something. The whole student group were completely neglected, and he got caught up in that.

Sikander seems like a lovely guy (from near to me! ) so I hope he gets something else soon and does really well.

Just wanted to express my annoyance that Sikander has quit Hollyoaks. I really like Jamil and think he's one of the better students, so it's bad that Sikander has been really underused, therefore I don't blame him quitting. I tweeted him saying something similar & that it's Hollyoaks loss!
