Is mainly the elderly that like "variety" acts on BGT

Just wondered this, a lot of people not happy "singers" are making up a lot of finalists.

However its probably mainly younger voters who are voting for the little lad, bouce tumble dry or whatever they are called and the likes of Jai getting to the final.

So should they just make BGT a "variety" show and exclude singers or would that turn off a lot of younger viewers and voters.

On another note do they need clearance from RSPCA for these dog acts.

Only an idiot would vote 51p for an act to progress - why not let the studio audience vote? Who exactly reaches for the phone and dials, the show is already a golden goose - don't given them any more money.

dunno about rspca clearance but they should march on there and stop that bird wailing down that dogs ears to make it howl.

I don't vote, primarily because I don't wish to line Cowell's pockets any more than they already are. This may not give me the right to an opinion in some people's eyes but do I care less? No. I am 38 and I love the variety acts because they are what I grew up watching on good old Saturday night tv. JOe LOngthorne, Russ Abbot, Les Dennis and Dustin Gee, I could go on. I would hardly call 38 elderly but perhaps I am guilty of being a tad nostalgic. Although I think Les Gibson is overrated, he is entertaining. And I adore Jean Martyn. I like a good singer but dance acts do nothing for me (although I do admit to finding Diversity very good indeed) and I didn't think the young boy who went through earlier this week was anything to write home about.

I think it's horses for courses.

No, people of the same age have different likes and dislikes, whatever that age might be. You don't suddenly slip into a hive mind, over the age of 40.

I'm 17 and I much prefer the true variety acts, I'm sick of singers getting through. Sure singing is a talent, but we have the X Factor for that.

I do think there should be a minimum age limit of 16, simply because people fall for the kids and they usually rack up all the votes.

I don't mind singers - particularly as the ones who tend to progress are more musical theatre/classical in style so not X Factor fodder as that show is allegedly looking for a pop star. I don't think any of them have ever been particularly brilliant though, all perfectly competent but nothing you can't see in am dram groups across the country - these ones get onto the show because of their back stories.

What I do get sick of is the kids. For some reason a lot of people will vote for a cute kid above a variety act with real skill.

I think there's definitely room for singers and variety on the show but please cut out the kids and stop having a bloody dog act in every semi final.

The thing is that the young of this generation have never seem variety and do not understand anything other than singers and dances.

The fault is with their ignorance, but not their fault.

They need to educate themselves that there are many other forms of entertainment.
