Ok I admit I am of one of the people who questioned Matt Smith, 'who is this young upstart? Never heard of him'. However the last episode, 'The Almost People', I really liked him. He has an inner monologue which he announces out loud. Tom Baker was the same and he is my favourite Doctor .

In the episode 'The Almost People' I knew The Doctor had changed shoes early on and it was easy to follow who was the 'real' Doctor but I loved that test with Amy to test her loyalty.

Also the dialogue between The Doctor and The Doctor made me laugh out loud Matt Smith has the same quirkiness as Tom Baker and that is the biggest compliment I could give him. I personaly think he is the best 'Nu Who' Doctor. I never thought I would say this but he is better than Tennant

I have grown extremely fond of him.
What surprises me with this whole "upstart" thing. Peter Davidson wasnt much younger right?

Yeh that's true. I think Peter Davidson was around about the same age. However with the 'Nu Who' being as media popular as it is people tend to judge more. I did it myself with Matt Smith. Iam guilty as charged. 'He can't be better that Tennant' I thought. 'He can't even be better than Eccelston' (I thought Eccelston was good but did not have a long enough run). I was wrong. In my eyes he is up there with Baker.

I was very much a Tennant Fangirl. I was madly obsessed with him (In a way that affection has now been transfered x10000000000 to Alex Kingston.) I was so convinced that Matt Smith would be rubbish but his first ep surprised me and he kept on growing from there.

I'm old enough to have seen the very first showing of every single episode ever made and I reckon Matt as a close second to Tom

Somebody else who thinks Matt is like Baker There is also a small sound bite when The Doctors 'ganger' is trying to form and you hear 'Would you like a Jelly Baby?' by Baker. I like Matt Smith very much. I know its a career killer but Id like to see more of him as the Doctor.

Peter Davison was 30. Older than Matt was when he got the role.

Matt Smith has made the part his own, not only that but he did so very quickly indeed. It was as tough task to take over from someone who had become so associated with the part as Tennant was, so he deserves a lot of respect for that, imho.

Matt is certainly my favorite New Who Doctor, and one of my favorite Doctor's of all time! He is far better than Tennant and even slightly higher than T.Baker in my book.

He's a fantastic actor; I wasn't blown away by him during the first half of last season but this year he's been on another level

Matt Smith is a legend. An amazing and worthy successor to David Tennant.

My favourite Doctor is Troughton, and Matt's RIGHT up there, and likely to take over by the end of this season.

Oh, he's mighty sexy too. It still feels WRONG to fancy The Doctor...

MS is the best Doctor this century.

I knew he'd be perfect as soon as I saw him on that introductory programme, and I was right.

The Doctor, Amy and Rory are a superb combination.

The more I think about it, the more I put Matt on par with DT for me. I think they're both equally wonderful in their own way.

Blimey don't tell that to Martha Smith

I agree that Matt is great... more alien than Tennant's doctor in my view... and he's great at being an old alien in a young-looking body too

Of course, the scripts have helped... there's more wit to the writing these days, I reckon

such as "did you just wish really hard" in the Doc's Wife - brilliant stuff
