Was The Pet Food Task A Very Late Recognition Of The Point Of 6 Million Cat Owners?..

Remember some years ago, in one of the tasks, I think it was where the teams where selling calenders and where pitching to the industry bigwigs, one of the girls made the point of their being 6 Million cat owners in the country and was getting at that a calender of cat pictures should selll well as a result?

I remember everyone mocked that point and laughed at it inc the bigwigs and Sugar himself while I thought it was a good point. Was this last task, a very late recognition of that point? That with their being millions of cat and dog owners, that products related to cats and dogs should sell well?

That was my instant thought when I heard about this task and I was thinking this while watching the episose but forgot about doing a thread on it, so what do you think?

I'm not sure people were laughing at the statistic, something else about the pitch wasn't right... wasn't she the one who cut off someone asking a question, paused and then said, "Any questions?"

They definetely laughed and didn't seem impressed with the statistic, as for the bit your reffering to, that stuff happens a lot and if that happenned in that pitch, it would have been an additional thing they would have not been impressed with.

Boy is it quiet on here this year, is there another forum people ae posting on when it comes to the apprentice?

I think the point is that the idea of someone buying a calendar with just cat pictures in is quite funny!

They were making a calendar for Great Ormand Street Hospital. So cats were conaidered a bad choice because they didn't have a connection with GOSH. Also, the pitches were poor for other reasons. Partly the editing: the rules didn't allow them to change the pitch, apparently, and the edit repeated the same line from each of three pitches so it seemed repetitive.

The candidates had to do a pet food, so either cats or dogs is the obvious choice. If you mean recognition by the production team, I don't think they ever denied it.

I don't know about cats, but dog picture calendars sell very well.

I once asked a guy in a calandar selling shop if he sold calendars of Rotweillers, and he done a kind of scoff but not in a mocking way, he said that dog callendars sell really well and out of them, Rotweillers sold the best! He had sold out of them in fact!

In case you think he was mocking me, there where calendars of other breed of dogs still available to buy.

It's not though. Cat calendars sell well.

As somebody else pointed out, the team were mocked for two reasons. Firstly, cats had no obvious connection to Great Ormand Street, secondly their pitch was dire, focused entirely on facts about cats. They should have been talking about things like price, but Nargis was clueless.

It wasn't just that cats had no obvious link to St Ormonds - it was that the calander itself had no obvious link to St Ormonds - the logo was tiny and hidden at the bottom. Cats would have worked fine if they had been worked into a medical theme eg cats dressed up as doctors and nurses with a big fat St Ormonds st logo on.
Though knowing cats - good luck with getting them to co-operate with that

I don't think there has to be a link to whatever their raising money for, the mian thing is, is it good. Lots of things are sold/donated to raise money for charity, how many times do they donate things that are linked to what their raising money for?

They don't that often, its about selling or donating something that is likely to sell and raise maximum money so those who laughed, I'm not impressed with at all.

I remember that and I do recall thinking at the time that it seemed harsh - there is even a tenuous link really between gosh and cats.

Without having ever purchased one myself - most times that I have looked for a callendar there has been a 'cat' one on the stand - I would think thta means most shoips think they sell!?
