Anyone but Ronan?

Season 74

I haven't got anything against the kid, but looking at this years lineup, there are so many good acts that i wouldn't mind winning, the only one that doesn't appeal to me is Ronan. I'm sure there are few people like this for whatever reason, but i think this is quite well setup because it looks 50/50 for Ronan to win so we end up with 2 camps: pro-Ronan and "anyone but Ronan".

Does anyone else feel like this? and please don't turn this into the childish slagging matches we get on these forums. I may not want Ronan to win, but he is perfectly good and doing what he does. It just doesn't appeal to me personally.

That's the attitude I'm taking.

I know it's not very nice to pick on a twelve year old but he is just so stage school and affected. There is no genuine emotion when he sings.

I felt the same way since his audition, I don't get the hype. There are far more acts I would say are worthy of the status 'the next Susan Boyle'.

Yeah it is strange that. To be honest i haven't paid a huge amount of attention to him because he really isn't my kind of singer. He obviously can hold a note but i'd prefer to listen to Jai McDowell belt out a Evanescence song than the somewhat predictable choice they made for Ronan.

Personally i think from our side Jai and Razy have the best chances. Especially if Razy cries.

I don't like child performers. Full stop. So I won't be voting for him. I actually don't like the kid anyway. He's seems very affected in both dress and personality.

I'm not on the 'anyone but Ronan' bandwagon just yet as I'd rather he went on to win than Jean or New Bounce definitely.

Yeah but Ronan has very obvious mainstream appeal. It doesn't always come down to "worthiness".

All BGT have had success, none of them have disappeared into oblivion.

He is by no means my favourite act, however "anyone but ronan" is a very sad idea. Plus, how can you say he is stage school and affected, he hasn't acted or spoken in any way which suggest stage school. He barely talks tbh, just says thanks etc. The kids from new bounce seem far more stage school - and that is a fact as they are all performers from stage school

I just don't see how someone like Steven Hall deserves it more? But I don't mind who wins, I just think people who take sides (to this extreme) for a talent competition are wasting their time.

I'm not saying his demeanour off stage is stage school but whilst performing he is! It's an over-polished, glory note orientated performance- there is little in the way of him actually connecting or understanding the song. It's a very hollow kind of vocal performance.

I understand what you mean, the performance is empty - especially when singing a song like he did in the semis. However at that age, most kids will be the same. As for stage school in his performance, all he does is sing into a Mic? He is quite feminine in his stance, if thats what you mean. But I think that is just him tbh

don't get me wrong, people like Jai and Michael (when he isn't flat) are more deserving as they "feel" the song whilst singing. However imo Ronan is by no means the worst act.

Paul potts - haven't heard nothing about him for years
Spellbound - the same
George Samson - same
Diversity - oh they had a show on Sky 1

reality shows are so past it now, xfactor winners are never heard of again once they win, same goes for big brother, iacgmoh, doi, scd etc
Katie price gets more attention and she has not even got a talent

He does come across as a stage school brat. All that false modesty.

I have a huge moral problem with Simon Cowell (or anyone else) wanting to blatantly exploit a 12 year old kid to make a fast buck.

You only have to look at how it ruined the lives of numerous child stars from Judy Garland through to Michael Jackson; numerous 1970s/1980s US TV/film child stars through to Britney Spears & Lindsay Lohan today to know the pitfalls of celebrity at too early an age.

Hence, if I had my way I would bar all under 16 year olds competing in an adult competition like this. Because in UK Talent show terms the ghost of Lena Zavaroni will rear its head should Ronan win to be exploited by Simon Cowell, to end up a washed up has been at 15.

I don't think anyone but ronan is a strange concept? ronan is 8th on my list to win and he is even odds to win. It literally is 50/50 in ronan vs the field and i'm picking the field.

Why his parents put him up to this is beyond me. I t seems to me he has a few gender issues as well. Some parents are so star struck they will stop at nothing..

How can you tell that?

Seriously it is unbelievable how many sad people are on this board. As for the guy who said gender issues, he is camp. Yes he probably will be gay, but just because he is camp doesn't mean he has issues.

I don't want Ronan to win because I think there are better singers, and personally I want Razy to win. However I don't insult the kid and make stupid remarks. He had done nothing but sing and say a few words. But because he is favourite, that makes people insult a 12 year old

Agreed. There are some very sad people here. He sang a song and barely spoke, yet people call it "false modesty" and that he has "gender issues" ...

I don't think anyone has insulted him so far. I think what the guy was saying was he is very femine which isn't necessarily an insult but choice of words seems to be the thing that offends people.

Agreed. He is like some doll with a string you pull to make him sing

Maybe his choice of words were off, but Creamtea's
"He does come across as a stage school brat. All that false modesty" seems sort of insulting

No arguing against that. Everyone is either arrogant or "falsely modest". Damned if you do and damned you don't. I think his personality on the show will probably be dictated by him being overwhelmed.

Paul Potts is the most successful talent show contestant ever. He's still active performing around the world.

George Sampson is in Waterloo Road- different to what he was there for but still in the public eye.

Diversity and Spellbound both still perform at various events.

Thats a good track record for a talent show, not many can boast successes like that, especially when you look at shows like X Factor. Only 2 of 6 winners (unfair to include Matt at this stage) have been successful.
