Is it fair for a 12 year old kid to be at the middle of all this rubbish? Whether the kid has or hasnt been coached, it still seems that he is in a position which is embarrassing and he will regret when he is older. The production company benefits from all the media fuss, and at the end he just gets dumped. And then has to go through High School as the object of derison and all these rumous.
All of these talent shows are cruel and exploitative. I can just about buy the argument that when you put yourself into it, you know what youre doing and you have to take the results... but I dont think you can fairly apply that to someone under 16.
I dont want to see camp 12 year old singers, anymore than weeping 9 year old girls begging for another chance to sing, or any of the rest of it.
The kids dont deserve it.
And if you accept that the main purpose of these shows is for the audience to mock the bad auditions and self important semi-talented, you can hardly do that with a clear conscience when the person youre supposed to be mocking is just a child.
