That baffles me aswell, I see alot of teens with Blackberry now.
But I fail to see why. BBM is nice, but it doesn't have any obvious benefit over SMS - security is nice, but how many people really need that? |

Stepson (19 years old) loves his BB, and knows that his next phone will absolutely have to be a BB.

Mobiles as a whole are for communication, and I still only believe that the BB is unbeatable in a corporate email environment. Otherwise the BB offers no advantage over other mobile mail solutions, be it iOS, Android or Symbian. Haven't tried WP7, so can't comment on how well the MS mail client works. |

Blackberry is a downgrade on features. I know many who have dropped Iphone for it though.
Depends if you want a fashion phone or the Iphone 4 best smart phone around. |

Depends if you want a fashion phone or the Iphone 4 best smart phone around. Not sure what "features" you'd loose other than the massive marketplace. As a phone, the BB is as good as anything out there. As an email device nothing betters it. |

Well the Iphone is a fashion phone too.
It's why I never got the 3GS poor cameras. Only got the Iphone 4 as it fixed that so would I go for a 2MP Blackberry definitely not. Screen is too small too. |

The additional cost of a BB tariff tends to be similar to the cost of an unlimited text tariff, so no real advantage either way.

My BB torch has a 5mp camera and takes absolutely superb pictures.... I wouldnt say that the screen is too small either, the Mrs has a 9700 with a 3.2mp camera and that takes great pictures too, way better than the 5mp I used to have on my old Nokia.

I think if you install the opera web browser, you should be fine if there are ever problems with the blackberry network, as that should use the mobile network internet, rather than blackberry internet.
My next door neighbours son just swapped their Blackberry curve for his mates Lg, no idea what model LG. it is his Blackberry I had a proper look at. His Sister had a older Blackberry, i liked that one, it had a little ball to move around the screen, I think she have the Bold now. i still think i made the right choice with the HTC wildfire over the BB Curve. |

Depends if you want a fashion phone or the Iphone 4 best smart phone around. To me a phone is a ph9one, I don't care what make or model as long as I can use it and it does what I want it to do. I want a phone to call people and for people to call me, then text and anything else is a bonus. My little wildfire may be a bit slow sometimes, but it does what I want it to do. i don't understand this most have such a such, because it is cool. Like kids to be honest. i watched a programme about super brands and the first one was on about gadgets and schools kids was saying that the presenter Nokia was not cool. I can expect it from kids, but not from adults |

Let's approach this from a different angle. Original poster, you have an iPhone that has seen better days and you don't think much of iPhones anyway. Reading between the lines I think you're already considering Black Berry as your next phone--not least because your boss will get you one free.
You've already played with Android phones and, except for some specific models which are presumably well outside your current budget, they don't appeal to you at present. You're not a huge internet user except for Facebook and whatnot, and you've already identified some of the BlackBerry's communications technology as a potential solution to your connection problems. Your main problem here appears to be lack of practical experience with the BlackBerry. I'd say take the BlackBerry. If it disappoints, you will then have broader experience and a clearer idea of what you want from a phone. Initially treat it as a road trial. If three months down the line you're facing severe problems, your boss may well be the first person to admit that it didn't work out satisfactorily.Meanwhile the prices of high end phones will have fallen and you'll have had more time to find an affordable deal. And if it works out, come back and tell us. |

i have heard a fair few stories about Iphones being fragile as well. My Ex had a iphone and knocked it off her coffee table and the screen cracked. It hit carpet for goodness sake.
She now gone to HTC and got herself a Desire.

But the price of the Iphone as it is a flipping expensive phone, you would have thought it would be built better, but then I suppose you pay peanuts for labour you get monkeys I am surprised to be honest because Apple computers are pretty tough Quote:

My old 3G has had its day, I'm not fussed on getting another iPhone to over priced for what they are. I don't like android, so am thinking about a Blackberry, I've never even held one let alone play with one but my boss will give me a nice new one free at work if I want, Will it be a difficult move? I use my iPhone mainly just for email, twitter and facebook, some music, limited net use.
Opinions please? I would go and give android another chance. |

Dont even think about it!
Had Iphone 4, loved it, but went to BB for sake of BBM to long distance GF. Utter crap I had the top of the range Torch, but it was just rubbish at everything. Camera was rubbish with random freezes, internet appalling, touchscreen slugish, touchscreen keyboard impossible to use and normal keyboard had issues too.. only thing it did well was BBM. Suffice to say I'm now back with the iPhone..and we shall never be parted again The RIM adverts should use this slogan from now on.. "For Girls & kids" |

I wouldn't go for a blackberry, as everybody I know who has one has had a bad word to say about them. No one has said anything positive about them. I've gotten told that they always break and that the only reason they have it is for BBM and their waiting for their contract to end.
I would go and give android another chance. We did have some breakages, but it was more down to broken screens, people just not looking after them. Other than that they were perfectly reliable. Everyone I've known over the past few years with them hasn't said anything bad about them - be they colleagues with company supplied phones, or friends/family who have bought their own. Nothing but positive feedback for the BB platform. |

For me the iPhone can't touch the BB for what I use it for, for others it may be the other way, I won't feel the need to make stuff up though to try and make the iPhone look bad, after all why should I give a crap, it's not like I have shares in either company or the like. |
