Congratulations to Jai, but I'd rather see Ronan on my TV in the future. I'm not keen on anthemic singers.

Not necessarily. Susan Boyle was favourite to win and she got massive support all across the world and she still came second. Just because someone is a favourite doesn't mean they're going to win.

yeah, but susan didn't get negative publicity just days before the final.

You really think people are so shallow that they are influenced by - or even pay attention to - gossip etc? A handful, maybe, but not enough to make an impact on the vote.

Many people just watch the show and vote for their favourites and haven't a clue what's being said.

Yet another case of the favourite not winning. Happens all the time in horse racing...

No, but she did suffer from last-minute backlash.

She did actually. She got a lot of bad press in the final week getting wound up by reporters in the hotel bar etc. Also there was a huge backlash against her being the favourite. It's the same every year - Trial by Media.

If he'd have come last I might have thought so - but he came second. Jai was best in the end - simples.

I'm not sure that's true. How else did Rage Against the Machine get to number 1 if it wasn't for an internet campaign against Simon Cowell?. People love to vote against him and If 10% believe what they read in the papers it could be enough to affect the result IMO

I think he was robbed! but negative press in this country can bring you sucess.

I have not watched this competition except tonight but when I read that story on here today I said that will have a negative effect on Ronan's vote .
Cowell should have kept quite till after the competition.

Rubbish. I voted for Jai because he was better IMO. Pure and simple.

Ronan will probably have a recording career - until his voice breaks, and then he'll be forgotten, when Jai is still going strong...

YES Exactly, people ARE shallow, the voting public are incredibly shallow, check out the profile of the finalists,BGT appeals to the shallowness in people, Cowell knows this and exploits it.

He was only 2.5% behind on votes apparently...

To be honest I think the story helped his vote.

He got loads of tv/press coverage...and almost all of it was sympathetic and rubbished the fix claims.

It would have got him the sympathy vote for the most part.

^^ I agree with the above. I dont think it cost him anything. People always assume child singers are going to win and then they dont... its happened before.

I was surprised he was second, if it wasn't for all the hype and drama he should have come 5/6th he was not that good

Ronan's chances were not ruined by the publicity. If the publicity affected the voting, he wouldn't have finished in 2nd place just 2.5% behind Jai. I like Ronan and I like his voice. But Jai made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and gave me goosebumps so, for me, he was a truly deserved winner

I thought he was good just the wrong song choice.

TBH I liked Ronan much better than Jai, so I suppose I was surprised that so many people liked Jai, who I found a bit boring. It's always a bit gutting when the one you voted for doesn't win. I voted for Razi too.

His chances of winning BGT may have been ruined but as a career.. Wow, the doors are ALL open.

I also think it was a bad song that did it, As I have not seen him untill tonight and also not seen the press so I judged on what I saw and yes he has a good voice but the whole song was just flat for me and didnt fit right for a lad his age.

People don't like to think that they are being played. I think this was definitely a factor here.

That's not actually fact. If a voice breaks gradually, than a singer's voice does not change hugely, if trained, just loses slight range. I know from experience. Plus his voice is interesting as it is quite low and strong compared to his speaking voice, so may not be affected all that much. Although he has no chance of reaching the higher notes he did at the end of the performance (unless falsetto)
