The Sontarran (Spoilers)
Leper Messiah
05-06-2011
I wish the Sontarran had lived, he had some great lines

"I hope someday to meet you in the glory of battle, when I shall crush the life from your worthless human form....

...Try and get some rest"

"It's strange, I always dreamed of dying in combat. I'm not enjoying it as much as I'd hoped"

There should be more Sontarran heros in the series I think!

He's a clone. Even if that one's dead, there must be loads more.

Best Sontaran ever.

I'm in two minds as he was so far removed from Lynx the sontaran was unrecognisable. The lines were funny but maybe the SOntaran could have been a more serious delivery of the lines. Was a comedian playing the role by any chance?

The deadpan delivery was perfect. Who else would like a Sontaran companion?

It was Dan Starkey, the same guy who's been playing Sontarans for the last few years now.

I love the Welsh Sontaran.

"And perhaps one day, I shall meet you on the field of battle and destroy you for the Sontaran empire."

Agree, been thinking this for ages.
Am I the only one who thought the
Spoiler
"I've had a good run, I'm nearly twelve" was actually quite sad?

I think there may have been a bit of foreshadowing in his dying last words.

I was left a little confused, not only with the Sontaran but with the rest of the Doctor's army of helpers.

Why did he choose these particular characters and/or races?

We saw from Pandorica that these races were all part of the Alliance.

We have met many people over the years who would be considered to be in his debt - so why did we instead get fed a lot of characters of whom we have never met before (I'm referring to the individual character and not their race)?

Because they have resources that the Doctor needs, for one. But particularly...

Because it's good to be reminded that characters don't have to be generic evil bad guys.

The very point of the theme of the episode is the effect the Doctor has on the people he touches - he makes them a bit less generic and a bit more like him. He inspires them to be more than they would be otherwise.

We need new characters to highlight the point that he's affected more lives than the ones we see on screen. Seeing a returning character (like Danny Boy, or Captain Avery) gives us a burst of pleasure at seeing them again, but doesn't give us the same sense of scope.

Good point, like who was the blue, fat guy?
