Was the Rebel Flesh just exposition?
bazellis

All this 'Flesh/Ganger' storyline seems to have come all of a sudden, so I was wondering was the Rebel Flesh & The Almost People episodes just a plot device so we understood the concept of Gangers- or is there something more to those episodes?

It was so we understood the Gangers, but also to entertain us as it is a television series with various different stories.

Personally i didn't buy that this massive company who used the flesh would just cease business because of a couple of their employees' complaints. I think we'll see the company again, maybe we already have. Does Madame Kovarian work for them?

Erm, didn't they kind of function reasonably well as a standard stand alone doctor who two parter?

That's what I was thinking.

I'm not saying they didn't, they most certainly did.
What I'm saying is that it seems funny that Amy and Melody have now become gangers without seemingly any connection to the story expressed in these episodes.

It was also so the doctor could see if cutting the link between real Amy and ganger Amy would harm real Amy - or at least that was my understanding

There would be no point in them both melting if we didn't know what it was

I think the term is dramatic exposition.

The Doctor could have just explained the basic concept in about five minutes, but I prefer it this way. Your mileage may vary, of course

Ok, apologies. The word "just" in the thread title appeared to suggest you felt the episodes only served the purposes of exposition. Why did it appear to be all of a sudden to you?
