“I do hope he doesn't go yet! I know he'll have been there for quite awhile by then, but it feels like he's just getting started in some ways. Chryed has been his first big s/l and even at that, there's only been a few occasions where Christian's really been the focus (NYD, at some points throughout April, ABRC). I think it'll be a bit of anti-climax if he leaves anytime soon, personally, unless he gets an absolutely *fantastic* offer elsewhere. I have no doubt Johnny'll still be around, but he's around anyway, while still being on EE- I think sticking around for another two years or so would mean that when he does leave he'll be remembered and his departure will really feel like a big loss (other than to us, obviously).
I don't know why I think I know what's best for an actor, but I really do think next year is too soon. Maybe I just want Christian and Syed as a properly established couple before one of them goes.”
I'd love for them both to still be around three years down the line but I just don't see it. The average is four years to stay in a soap. Next year will be five for Johnny. It's clear by his stints outside EE that he loves a mix and a clear indicator that he wants to try other things. I do think 2012 will be his departing year and I’ve come to accept that. I’m actually ok with it. As much as I’d miss Chryed, what we can take is, is that we’ve been given this beautiful love story that was not tampered or ruined in any way. I fear that if Christian and Syed are long term characters, then the show would go down the unfortunate route of them cheating on each other or doing something to completely ruin their characters. Look at Kat and Alfie and Ronnie and Jack? Despite awful screentime (up until the last couple of months) we’ve been incredibly lucky. I just don’t want to see them tarnished for the sake of a couple of more years. I want them to exist as a happy memory.
Sorry, I know all that sounds depressing as there has been absolutely no rumours of either leaving but I’m just preparing myself for inevitable. As a lifelong viewer of EastEnders, I’d rather it be the foreseeable future. It’s usually the first couple of years that are the best for EE couples and then its downhill from there.
We’re getting lots of screentime and development for the rest of the year though so there is still plenty to come and look forward to.

I agree that Christian character feels like it hasn't been done yet but I do think 2011 will flesh him out some more. I can't see EE ever axing him. He's likable and a fan favourite. If Johnny leaves, it'll be because he feels its the right time and he probably wants to move on.
