Recent savouries:

Sweet potato soup.

Complete YUM: cinnamon swirl loaf.

Chicken lasagne bake.. Inspired after making the chicken-y red sauce and the white sauce and then discovering I had tons of penne but no lasagne sheets.

Chessboard cake:

Cake batter swirled in the tins.

Baked and cooling.

Stacked.

Ganach'd.

No idea if the chessboard effect will look any good, I'll have to wait until tomorrow in work when we'll slice it and see!

Adapted from this one.

I use passata instead of chopped tomatoes, and sometimes I add pepperoni/chorizo instead of the bacon. I also use half a stock cube in the chicken part and the other half in the bechamel.

Then, instead of layering it like lasagne, I mix the cooked pasta and red sauce/chicken part, and mix in most of the white sauce (reserving about a ladelful). Bung in an oven dish, then spread the rest of the white sauce over the top and cover in cheese.

Not in the mood for cooking then?
Haha not today! On Friday I did LOADS of cooking with my flatmate, we are doing a Come Dine With Me with the neighbours. My pics aren't that great, but I'll post them up soon.

First contestants were my flatmate and I on Friday just gone. I have never done so much cooking in my life. VERY hard work!

I didn't photograph the starter but it was tomato and red pepper soup (by flatmate) served with white and wholemeal mini bread rolls (by me).

Then the main course table:

rainbow salad (flatmate): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D8A81FB968.jpg

Jamie Oliver roast veg (by me): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D89A001D46.jpg

potato dauphinoise (by me): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D88563BF0F.jpg

an amazing veggie dish for the veggie girls, invented by my flatmate (and cooked by her): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D8644C2E0B.jpg

lemon, garlic and thyme roast chicken (me): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D903ACEC54.jpg

roast parsnips, carrots and red onions: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D92F7CAE07.jpg

alltogether: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D90B8C07A9.jpg

dessert: chocolate, raspberry, jam and whipped cream cake: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D982E3AD9E.jpg

sliced: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...D987537EA0.jpg

Tonight I had a horseshoe sandwich

It's a slice of toast, with a burger on top, covered in fries then a cheese sauce

I'm not going to lie, it looked a bit more 'lava lamp' than chessboard. But it still had an impressive quality and it tasted quite good.

Cinnamon ice-cream.

Mango sorbet.

The inside of that chessboard cake: Lava lamp!

Roasted red pepper hummus.

Thin mints.
