Lots of Nellie here. And more to come.

She was great, best blank out the second Nellie.

But isn't she from "up North" herself? She was Irma Ogden in Corrie years ago - sorry if it's already been mentioned.
She had been in Emmerdale before too as a barmaid Doreen Shuttleworth in the Malt Shovel.

I have to say I can't say I'll be sorry to see the back of

I find her very cold and I think she stunts

I also think

Really! That's interesting, especially as it obliterates my potential exit plot!

As I said I don't really like
Spoiler
not for any great reason, she's just not my cup of tea.

But the character is not a bad person and I wouldn't want her to have an unhappy ending, though killing her off might not be a bad idea!

Just found old videos on YouTube of the Emmerdale Plane Crash. I was really young when this was first on the telly, so giving it a rewatch now. Quite excited to find it .

I loved the first Nellie Dingle. I was still a kid when she was in it, but I have a vivid memory of Butch hiding on the roof of Wishing Well to escape her wrath, then dropping his beer can and being caught. She was great!

Oh come on - aren't five deaths in a year quite enough for a small village?. Why this horrible obsession with killing people off. Yes people do die, but Leyla is what late 20s?. And at least she has never aided anyone to kill themselves without seeking help.

I suspect there will be one more death in Emmerdale this year anyway - as Hazel is staying till December (God knows why in a village where she will be ostracised), I suspect a jolly Xmas suicide a la' Eastenders. I don't think it a good idea - either a quick exit , a moonlight flit, after she is found guilty and put on probation or perhaps a term of imprisonment for rank stupidity and having a mournful boring voice, either would do, but knowing the dark world Emmerdale now is, I see it as a distinct possibility

"has just signed on for another year. "

Must be a comfort for the dynamic duo of November and Blackburn that one character wants to stay around, when so many who haven't been sacked are voting with their feet, and giving them the bums rush

It is interesting you make this broad statement about people's 'horrible obsession with death', then spend the rest of your post prophecising Hazel's suicide...

Aside from anything else, I think Leyla is on our screens for several more months yet. But I don't see the character ever coming back, do you? She's hardly a household name and the fact the actress has just randomly decided to leave is an indication that she's bored anyway.

And if she wasn't killed off, I think there would always be this shadow hanging over David, and over Alicia's paternity issues with Jacob. Sometimes killing a character off is a necessary evil in order to bury certain doubts and reinvigorate certain avenues that certain characters would then be able to go down.

A year? I just read he'd signed a new contract but it didn't say how long for.

Maggie Tagney was Nellie MKII. She also had bit parts in Corrie.
Is Nellie still alive? In Ireland? If she is I suppose she could make a return. So could Mandy, Albert, Elvis and Marilyn and the never seen Nathan could also materialise.
What's happened to Granny Clegg? Lisa never mentions her now, did she pop off?

Please re-read what I actually wrote, not what you hoped or imagined I wrote. I made it clear I wasn't "for" Hazel's suicide, but as well know PQ won't be returning tot he show it seems feasible that ED would go down this path. Remember she is going to fill very guilty about what she is about to do.

I have made it clear, in terms, I would prefer to see the character go (alive) and as soon as possible.

I don't subscribe to this isn't life cheap theory that seems to dominate the thinking of some soap writers and viewers. I was making the point Leyla is a young woman, and though of course young men and women die, it is more usual in real life they move on - alive. Why does this, as you imply, minor character have to die to make an interesting story?.

What is more interesting is why so many of the cast want to leave (if they are not sacked). Usually it is either because it is a rotten programme to work on because of the behind the scenes atmosphere, or they have no confidence in the series. ED certainly seems to be in decline, and soon DS will be publishing a list each week of who is staying rather than going

remember her crush on Eric Pollard. she would have been an all time classic character had she stayed on the show

Yeah, I think the original Nellie, Butch & Tina were the best of the Dingles.

No thanks. We have enough Dingles in the show atm.

We've been spliced again!
Part 13 of a great thread that has been running since 5th December 2005.
I think that's great.
Well done to all the contributors to this thread.

And to the Emmerdale team who keep giving us plenty to chat about.

I didn't know Sandra Gough [the first and best Nellie Dingle] had left for health reasons.
That is even more of a shame.
Although it does give me a glimmer of hope that if her health has improved she could visit us again one day.

I don't read the spoiler tagged stuff, but I have read people's responses to the info hidden and can work out what was under the tags!

Again, she can act well but hasn't been given much to do lately.
So I won't miss the character.

She's still around, and Lisa will probably visit her again when she needs more time off Emmerdale.

Thanks. She hasn't been or mentioned her for a long time.

I had to switch off Friday's episode. Rhona was starting to annoy me. Didn't take her long to get neurotic (probably spelt that wrong) did it? "Ooh...Paddy, I can' t do this. I'm a mess." Channel off.

Give her a break. She has only been a mum two days and I daresay that she will be under extra strain having two fathers round her. Her situation would I should think put anyone under strain, especially with Aaron likely to "go off on one" at any moment. Almost any story - even the woeful Jimmy - is a relief at the moment from the Blyth "Jackson" melodrama

The issue is that Rhona is bitchy and neurotic NORMALLY, let alone post-pregnancy; she is a vile human being. There are quite a few in ED though, to be fair!

I quite like Rhona. Who are the vile people?
The only one I dislike won't see the end of the week and will hopefully never be mentioned again.
